Alternative Fuel Vehicles: Discussions

Several people have determined that peak oil is here. Gas prices are skyrocketing. There are a variety of reasons to leave gasoline as the defacto standard fuel for cars: cost, the environment, oil wars, stop funding terrorism... But if it's not gasoline, then what? In your mind, what is the best alternative fuel and why?

Any tricks you've found for finding electric or alternative fuel vehicles?
Searching for 'electric car' brings back a lot of stuff that isn't an electric car of course.
