I have a walnut cupboard that belonged to my great grandmother handed down to my grandma and to my mom and now me. I have been told it is hand made in the 1800's it stands 7 ft 2 in and is 48 in wide and only 17 inches deep. My grandma told me the back of it is made from the wood of an old covered wagon. My uncle said that the wood is curly walnut. Our family has purposely not refinished so the stain is rather dark. Does any one have an idea how i can get in touch with someone that knows about antique walnut cupboards.
I have a wonderful old desk that I just refinished. It was a labor of love and an attempt at perfection. I found this old desk at an auction out in the country. It was painted dark brown, (and about fifty other colors under that)! It had great design and I decided to take it home and paint it. When I got around to working on it, I discovered it was solid walnut. Upon further inspection I found a paper label inside the drawer. It reads Jos Peters Furniture Co. At the bottom of the label reads "Member of St.Louis Board of Trade". This would have been a painted table originally I am quite certain. If anyone has any information about this Jos Peters, who I guess was actually Joseph Peters of St.louis about 1875 give or take 20-30 years, it would be greatly appreciated. I have calls in to the Historical Society and the Newspaper. The desk is a two drawer Low Boy or Side Table. It has skeleton key locks in each drawer, vase shaped legs ending in ball feet. After studying various styles of furniture I have a theory that this is a William and Mary styled piece. This era ended in 1775 so I am thinking perhaps it was a Centennial piece completed somewhere close to a 100 years after. This would date it approx. Civil War to 1890? Knowing when this gentleman was making furniture would greatly aid my theory.
I have a hard rock maple sofa, chair, rocking chair, coffee table & table lamp all with a Wagon Wheel design. My great-grandmother bought it second hand in the 1940's or 50's. I was told it was made in the 20's, but can't find any info on it. I'm trying to determine whether it's worth having the cushions reupholstered, or to get rid of it. I can email pictures to anyone who can help identify this set. Thanks for any help!
recently listed a carved Conestoga Wagon motif maple 1940s wagon wheel western pioneer theme bedroom set made by Virginia House Furniture Company (Item # 320258983512) and am curious about their similar bedroom sets with various "carved" themed motif graphic panels made by this wonderful company. From research, evidently the set I listed Virginia House named "Cumberland Gap," and as a vintage scouter, I've rarely run across other pieces, even though they are of solid furniture construction -- bedroom groups Sailing Ship and Wheel, Davy Crockett/Daniel Boone and Rifle Muskets, Log Cabin, Biplane and Propellor, etc. Intriguing piece of American folk lore -- anyone have additional info? Can anyone tell me approx. what an antique Scandia Curio Cabinet is worth? It is says "Scandia Furniture Company, Rockford, IL" on the back. The glass is curved on the sides but straight on the door across the front.
My son bought a 5 drawer chest and a 9 drawer dresser -- oak wood. I wrote to Thomasville furniture about it, as stamped on the back was #4711, Huntley/Thomasville furniture dated 1975. I found out that this was a French style, Palas Royal made between 1975 and 1978. All brochures and catalogues have been expunged -- so I only gained this much information. I have written all over to try to find an old Huntley furniture catalog showing this style -- or even to try to find out who in North Carolina was a printer at that time, printing catalogue for Huntley. We are not looking to sell, as these pieces are in very good shape -- just more information. Thanks.
I would love to get some help on my table. It is a dark solid wood with carved berries and leaves all over it. The top is a darker than peach more like salmon marble. The legs bow out and come back together about a foot before the floor with a carved shelf area. It has claw feet starting at the edge of the top and going all the way down the legs to the claws. There are intricately carved pieces small pieces that go in the corners between the legs below the top. I wish I could show you a picture but I don't know how to put one here. Please help if you know anything.
Hi, if you can help I would sincerely appreciate it. I have this full size antique bed and am wondering if any knows the approximate date on it, and also the style. Plus any other info would be great, or where I could read up on it online or in a particular antique book.
The wood is all dark, but some of the pictures come up light because of the flash. I have many more photos of it, and can add those if needed. Just let me know if you have anymore questions.
The beds headboard is approximately 80" tall x 59" wide.
I am trying to find furniture made by A. D. Deemer furniture and tables. This was my Great Great grandfathers company. I have not been able to locate any of the peices. If any body has any information on where I can find any this furniture, please get back to me on this topic please. Thank you very much.
