Has anyone every heard of the Leonardo Furniture Company of NY? I acquired an antique secretary several years ago from an elderly relative who resided in NYC for more than 80 years. The secretary has an emblem on the inside that says the name of this furniture company, but we don't have any more information regarding the piece. We believe it is at least 100 years old. Thanks for your help!
Antiques are a great way to reuse and recycle and to preserve history. I am looking for sellers with 100% positive feedback who sell antiques and other used and recycled items. If you are one of those people, please contact me at the_violet_butterfly@yahoo.com Thanks!
I acquired a piece of furniture and know nothing about it. It has 6 drawers and 2 cabinet doors. I have a picture I can post or email. I cleaned it up a bit, apparently it was sitting in a barn for quite a while. My cousin got it from someone and gave it to me. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have a walnut cupboard that belonged to my great grandmother handed down to my grandma and to my mom and now me. I have been told it is hand made in the 1800's it stands 7 ft 2 in and is 48 in wide and only 17 inches deep. My grandma told me the back of it is made from the wood of an old covered wagon. My uncle said that the wood is curly walnut. Our family has purposely not refinished so the stain is rather dark. Does any one have an idea how i can get in touch with someone that knows about antique walnut cupboards.
Hello, all. After many years of living in a log home and acquiring lots of primitive furniture and decorative items it's time to let them go. I know what I paid but have no idea of any appreciation/depreciation in value...hall tree, chest on chest from late 18th or early 19th century (dove tailed, very fine), lead lined water cask from upstate NY early 20th C, 3 leg stool, Windsor chairs, child's blanket chest from who knows when, gorgeous flat top steamer chest... Can anyone point in the right direction? Thanks for any thoughts or comments you can offer. Debbie
My wife inherited a very old Grandfather clock with a radio (not working) built in. She's 51, and this thing is as old as she is...is this clock really of any value? She grew up with this in her house. Her late father loved estate sales, but she is unsure if the clock was purchased at one or not.
I have a wonderful old desk that I just refinished. It was a labor of love and an attempt at perfection. I found this old desk at an auction out in the country. It was painted dark brown, (and about fifty other colors under that)! It had great design and I decided to take it home and paint it. When I got around to working on it, I discovered it was solid walnut. Upon further inspection I found a paper label inside the drawer. It reads Jos Peters Furniture Co. At the bottom of the label reads "Member of St.Louis Board of Trade". This would have been a painted table originally I am quite certain. If anyone has any information about this Jos Peters, who I guess was actually Joseph Peters of St.louis about 1875 give or take 20-30 years, it would be greatly appreciated. I have calls in to the Historical Society and the Newspaper. The desk is a two drawer Low Boy or Side Table. It has skeleton key locks in each drawer, vase shaped legs ending in ball feet. After studying various styles of furniture I have a theory that this is a William and Mary styled piece. This era ended in 1775 so I am thinking perhaps it was a Centennial piece completed somewhere close to a 100 years after. This would date it approx. Civil War to 1890? Knowing when this gentleman was making furniture would greatly aid my theory.
I seek a very large frosted lamp globe or shade - for a brass oil lamp. The piece requires a 5" fitter and the globe must be at least 12-16" in diameter. ALSO - does anyone think it at all possible to get a glass blower to enlarge a rather thick 8" globe - it I'm not particular as to the shape?
I just bought a new dresser and am wondering if I have a real gem here...I'm not an expert at antique furniture by any means, but I do know to look for things like dovetail joints, square nails, etc. Does anyone know what kind of wood this is and maybe help date and value this dresser?
This is not an item listed for auction so I can't figure out how to upload pictures. Any idea how to do that? In case you can't tell, I new to this forum-thing...
I have a hard rock maple sofa, chair, rocking chair, coffee table & table lamp all with a Wagon Wheel design. My great-grandmother bought it second hand in the 1940's or 50's. I was told it was made in the 20's, but can't find any info on it. I'm trying to determine whether it's worth having the cushions reupholstered, or to get rid of it. I can email pictures to anyone who can help identify this set. Thanks for any help!
