I would be interested in knowing why other people love Art Deco. What is it you like about it?
Do you collect Art Deco items? What are they?
Does anyone else out there watch movies made in the 1940's and pay more attention buildlings, furniture, interior design and clothes than to the actors and plot?
It's amazing to see the plethora of 1940's and 1950's stuff on eBay that is dubbed "Art Deco". Those eras may have those influences, but not true Deco. The true Deco period was approx. 1922-1939 or so and characterized by intricate geometric designs in jewelry and architecture and smooth curves in statuary, not to be confused with Art Nouveau which was the late 1800's to early 1920's and was characterized by gentle curved designs using nature/floral motifs. Art Deco was a complete opposite of the Art Nouveau period which immediately preceeded it. Art Deco started in France and valued and exhaulted man's industrial leanings and conquering of the wilderness-a very human and some may say "cold" reflected art. The Crysler building in New York City is arguably the finest example of Art Deco architecture in the world. If you know that building, then you will know Art Deco design. I think it would really help a lot of eBayers if they did a little art research to know exactly what they are selling in terms of design. I have seen so much 1950's stuff that is listed as Art Deco that really doesn't fit into that design category. Visit my eBay store at "Diamond Sparklers Ltd Fine Jewelry" and you will see a lot of Deco jewelry design. Hope this helps a little in Art history 101. Floydlawson10

Below is the listing, a customer of mine asked me to list and I just do not know anything about it, she believes she spent $7,500 which means nothing, it could be worth much less, or much more but I would think to even pay anything close to that someone had to think it was special, her deceased husband probably knew more about it, I did not see any signatures or marks, but if someone is familiar with it, it probably speaks out a partial artist, style, also what might the value be?
Just wanted to share this with you guys. Now you can get, up to 36% of the seller's fees whenever you buy something on eBay, and if you have an ebay store you can list it for FREE. Your listing will be seen by an active community of eBayers who have made millions of dollars in eBay purchases through this website in the past year alone.

The company I work for is moving into new offices next week. I want to decorate my office with as much Art Deco / 1940's style things that I can. I found a Movie poster and still photo's from "Key Largo", a pretty neat wall sconce, and a coat rack.
I am looking on ebay for Art Deco/40's stuff, especially a desk lamp. Does anyone have any suggestions about decorating, and where I might find things other than ebay?
