Hi, I have a caique. She is 6 months old and so funny. She is a great family bird. Unfortunately it's hard to find books on caique mannerisms. She does so many things that I often wonder what she is trying to tell me...like bobbing her head up and down with a lil dance at the same time. If anyone has any recommendations that would be great!
I am new to this group and want to say HELLO! My problem is that I have several squirrel-proof bird feeders in my yard. I live in Central NY and get may yellow finches. They are fast birds, but a bit timid to squirrels.
Some squirrels have learned that if they do a balancing act and hang upside down, they can work the feeders with their paws. And they do. Keeping away all my birds. I enjoy waking up in the morning, and having my coffee with my birds. It is a peaceful way to get my day started. But these squirrels are driving me crazy. Anyone have an idea how to discourage them. Or is it natural for them to be so smart? Thanks, Donna
Are there many bird watchers and people who love to feed the birds in the winter here on Ebay? I have some neat ideas on cheap bird feeders and ways to involve the kids. One of our favorites is to get a fat pinecone-fill it with peanut butter and roll it in bird seed and stuff the seed into the crevices. Hang it up and presto an instant bird feeder. The kids love making these!
Hi, My parrot sings his version "How much is that Birdie in the window". He sings, "how much is that birdie in the window, the one with the feathery tail, how much is that birdie in the window, priceless cause im not for sale". He sings that everyday. Is sooo cute.
Hi Everyone, Im a newbie to the neighborhood. I love birds. I have been Handcrafting Birdhouses for over 10 years and I have quite the following. I mainly sell the houses at Festivals in my area. I sell clothes on ebay and many of my Birdhouse customers have asked me to list some of my outdoor functional birdhouses. They are all made of rustic barnwood so naturally there are no two the same. I hope you will all visit my site over the next couple of weeks to view a few. Flocking together here in the neighborhood...Waterburyhill
I am the proud owner of an Concur Parrot and his name is Goobee We are so excited he is about 4 years old and we love him already. I was just curious to know if anyone knows where to get a bird harness for him, and apparel for when we go out or on trips?
My Love Birds are awsome! They are the new addition to our family. there names are, Romeo, Juliet and Prince Charming. All day long all they do is love each other. What an example for us humans to follow. There would not be the famine, wars, hate and everything else we are seeing in this world of ours, if we would just love each other a little. All of us that love the freedom of the birds should unite and do an act of love and kindness to someone everyday maybe one day we will be just as free as they are. Post your act of kindness, I love to hear from you.
HOW TO REPLACE LIVE BIRD EGGS WITH PLASTIC FAKE ARTIFICIAL EGGS
DIRECTIONS:
Leave fake eggs in nest until hen has no interest in them. You can just put them in all at once and take out the real ones. The sooner and the more eggs the better, but try not to let the birds see you do it.
Put in the number of eggs that she would lay in a clutch, plus more. She will reject the ones she does not want. Cockatiels usually need 7 to 9 fake plastic eggs. Fertilized eggs hatch in 21 days and another clutch can follow. It is best to leave the eggs in for as long as it takes, which could be months, before your hen looses interest in them.
Bonded pairs, male and female, will take turns sitting the eggs. They will defend their nest from intruders, so watch out when changing food and water daily. I have found a wide heavy shallow bowl placed at the bottom of the cage works nicely because I can see them and keep everything clean. Mama Bird comes out of her cage occasionally and takes her giant nesting poop, which is 4 times the size of the regular poop, don’t be alarmed. Poppa Bird, will sit the eggs when Mama’s on break and sings to her.
Most birds will not notice slight changes in size, color, shape, or texture. If it looks close to their egg they will generally accept it and do not notice the difference when the swap is made. A cover at night makes birds feel safe and secure to sit their nest in peace. A fresh sprig of millet and fresh cuttle bone will make for very happy birds. — Mel

I have a blue and gold and a Miligold..both are the sweetest, funniest beings ever. I've had the miligold "Sammi" for about 11 years. I had a blue and gold named Desi that he loved to death. Unfortunately, she died...I don't think she was ever well....she was actually my first bird,I got Sammi to keep her company. When she died, it was not only devastating for me, but Sammi was equally hurt. I did get another one months later..another blue and gold named "sunny"..If possible, Sammi loves her even more, because this one actually lets him near her. I am entertained every afternoon listening to them chatter to each other. I love letting them out and watching sunny follow sammi to whatever trouble he goes to get into...
I would really like some ideas for cheap toys I can make myself since Im not working. I do calculator tape, egg crates. paper bags, anything else I can make out of wood?
