If you had a "coin only" timemachine what year would you go back to and why ? What would you bring back? Please give as many answers as you'd like.....the more the better. I gotta think on this one...answer sometime Sunday. Well the storm passed, think I'll go fishing Saturday in canoe........... Chiefbullsit Jr. thinks he better fisherman than me...me know better.
Yes the government in there infinate wisdom have decided once agian to follow the Canadains and turn our money into steel, "Cents and Nickels" first of course, the House bill is H.R. 5512.
What do you all think of the idea? It would reduce the cost of manufacturing of those coins! And with the rust factor it may well add value to older coins!
this recent topic has had me pondering before. generally the best time to sell is after dinner and before primetime. But, not neceserilly. If you can predict this acurately you can definately double your sales prices. I know if there's a big storm, e-bay is swarming. But who can predict a blizard or torrential downpour? not the weather men. Also there are several diferent time zones to contend with. The mailman knows when i'm laid off, all my coins start coming with midwest postmarks. LOL
I noticed alot of the 2008 Silver Eagle coins are selling for big bucks now, and I've also noticed that the coins pictured are not actually the error coins. I received my error coins directly from the mint and my wife and I have been sitting back waiting for the news to break. Over the past three days we have been watching (to our delight) these coins sell for three hundred bucks and more. However when I looked at the auctions today, I noticed that many of the coins pictured as error coins are not actually the error coins. This is just a word up to all of you, if you want to see what makes the error coin different check this out: http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/news/ViewArticle.aspx?IDArticle=1016 Careful bidding to all of you!
Just got my Red Book a few days ago, but I can't find the section for silver bullion, such as the ASEs! Has anyone else found it? Thanks for any help. : )
This is a thorn in my side, people selling coins that have been cleaned and not declaring it.I am aware that some honestly don't know the coins have been cleaned but there is a small group who do know.Is it possible to stop this practice(I won't buy these coins)but many people new to collecting are being taken. thanks for letting me vent
everyone here knows that once somthing new is posted you either bite the bullet and buy low or wait and see where the price goes. Once in a while the price drops, like the ben franklin series, but that is foreseen. A mint error Variety like the wisconsin quarter or the 2008 ASE should never be ignored.
Hands in the air, who took the chance and bought a ase 2008 rev 2007 ?
i cried about it three weeks ago, "damn gotta buy another..." but glad i did.
Amazingly my collection has grown to over 2000 diferent coins and mint marks. there are alot of coins in "good" condition basically the early year coins , but everything I own from 1950 to present is of MS or pr quality.
I'm finding it harder and harder to buy coins on e-bay, just can't seem to find anything i need or am willing to pay for.
where do i go from here?
what does everyone out there collect? do you concentrate on one type of coin or do you buy everything?
Please don't laugh at me. I am new to this and I have a ____ question. What is the proper way to mail coins, mainly single coins. Thanks for the help and just laugh to yourself ok>
I would love to be a fly on the wall in this case.all these slabbers are suing e-bay ASAACCUGRADE,TREASURE GALLERY , CENTSLES,ANA,NNC,PCI,PNG, wow the nerve of some of these guys. the only name not mentioned was SGS, the proof 70 only company.I don't think aboncom was hurt that much anyway tho.
1. As a buyer what coins have you NOT won that you wanted ?
2. As a seller what coins have you sold that you wish you hadn't ?
A couple of weeks ago I was going to bid on a 1909-S Indian Head cent and I set my alarm clock 10 minutes before auction end....guess what the #$@%&*# clock didn't go off....ooohhhh it was nice,no spots no marks no deal.
Just wanted to hear how everyone got started in the hobby. I know it wasn't to make a profit some where down the line. (although I'm not against makin' a buck or 2 myself) But , I personally became fascinated with coins as a kid when I used to visit my grandfather in upstate New York. Boy , did he have a collection!!!! He would show me his collection which were impeccably stored in Albums & coin flips (of course I was only able to look , never touch) But I remember seeing those big old Morgan dollars, Indian head cents, Buffalo nickels & what I now believe were capped bust halves. I could not believe that they made coins like that. Those coins were so strange to me (well back then anything older than 20 years was strange to me). He saw that I had an interest in the coins & he started buying me some junk coins. (definitely not anything uncirculated or valuable) I just thought it was so cooooool , even though my friends thought I was a dork. I remember one year for my birthday , he bought me a big ol' belt buckle with two horseshoes on it , & he crazy glued 2 buffalo nickles on it. (which of course I ended up prying off with a screwdriver LOL) Man , those days are looooooong gone now!!! But ever since then , I was hooked. So , if anyone wants to share how they got their start(s) in coin collecting, please respond. I'd really like to know.
I don't know much about wheat pennies, but I just found something which looks odd to my untrained eye. It is a 1952D but the D appears to be rotated about 30 degrees and there is something underneath. Only part of whatever is underneath is shows, in the lower left, and it could be another D. Hard to describe it any better.
There is nothing in the red book about a variation like this and I doubt very much that I have found something new, so what's the deal? Is this sort of thing common and not of much interest?
