I have a 2 yr old Bichon Fris~ Max! Someone paid $800 for him when he was born. She took him to all appointments and groomed him etc...had him "fixed" and LOVED him...but then one day, She just left him at the groomers. The groomer called her repeatedly to come get him, and she changed numbers etc. After 4 weeks of having him at her shop, the groomer gave him a GREAT home...OURS!!! This is just about the sweetest dog I've EVER owned! He was only 1.5 yrs old when we got him, but the way he is with us...you'd think that we have owned him since birth. He is sweet, smart etc...What would make a person DO this? Abandon a dog that they put so much into?!
Well first of all hello. I have a 5 month old Silky Terrier and I take him EVERYWHERE with me on a daily basis we go to my business, my husbands business and home. We are using the Puppy pads after failing with the outside potty training LOL He really took off on the puppy pads at my shop ( 7X7) office where he stays for many hours, My husbands business where he has full run of the entire office wich is a little bigger than my shops office and then ( which is a whole other story ) my Home which is about 1800 sq ft. All the puppy books I have been reading say you should keep in a small area until they are potty trained but he is soooo cute that we don't can anyone help me PLEASE My house is beginning to smell like a kennel We always close the all the doors in the hallway.....we try to keep him secluded into 1 area but he still craps 5 ft from the puppy pads HELP I am a total failure at this !! this is the first small lapdog that we have had ! What should we do ?? Any help from the other members would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Hi, just thought I would take a minute and say hello to everyone! We have two dogs, both black lab mixes and just love them to pieces! Sadie is a 1 1/2 yr old black lab/red rock cook hound mix and Sam is a 1 yr old black lab/pit bull mix. Both are wonderful dogs and are so tame that our two-year-old son can walk them on a leash. He is their baby and they are VERY protective of him and of our nine year old daughter. Don't get me wrong, they are friendly as long as my husband and I are around, but if you come near our house when we aren't, look out!
Does any one else have a coon hound or a coon hound mix? I have only seen one other in my entire life. Just curiousity.
Between the two of them, our house is full of 200 pounds of canine PERSONALITY!!!
I'm Cheryl. I am a mom to 2 little human boys 6 & 4 and a little black Lab girl (Rhymer) 4. All 3 of them are my pride and joy. I have been lurking around today and love the pics and stories. Keep them coming.
During our walk last night - Alli somehow - somewhere got grease (I think) all across her right side. I recently had surgery on my elbow (home from work until next month) and cannot bathe her. Any quick remedies I can use to remove this without actually convincing her to jump in the tub.
i have a 1 year old jack rusell that thinks she's a pitbull. she attacks every dog she see's no matter the size im afraid someday she's gonna get bitten .i also have a rodisian ridgeback thats about ten years old and all the they do is play rough all day any suggestions on what i can do about her temper.
Hi,,I have a cocker spaniel who i believe I have tried everything for. That suffers from separation anxiety..he can not be left alone.I give him busy bones and also have one of those kong bones i fill right before we leave and gve him as a treat,,does not last long enough for him..He stills has behaviors once he is bored.Anyone have a cocker spaniel with some pointers for me. He is a great and well behaved dog when he is around people.i am running out of ideas for him..
My mother in-law (who resides with us) has an almost 10 year old Golden Retriever that is absolutely afraid of everything including his own shadow. The dog gets treated wonderfully and gets plenty of love, (though I find him to be quite annoying). It's almost like he's not a dog. When she leaves for work, he mourns and when he goes outside to do his business, he cries and howls to come back inside. I'm starting to wonder if he just ended up with an undesirable gene due to bad breeding. Does anyone else with this breed experience this behavior?
My husband and I just moved into our new home with our kids... Our 'kids' are our 4 dogs. 2 male (staff, mini schnauzer) 2 female (black lab, staff). Why is it the males feel it necessary to claim their new found territory in every room by taking a quick spray??? Sure, I know it's nature, but $%@& SERIOUSLY??? I suppose I just need to be grateful my husband doesn't join in.
Lately our 8 yr old Bordie Collie has been sleeping with his head in the corner of the room he is sleeping in. I mean as close as he can get to the corner - its like he is trying to hide. Any ideas why he started doing this?
First, I'm sorry I'm posting so much. I've been wanting to start a forum for this kind of thing if anyone's interested in the following.
It would be great if we could share randomly found articles of interest in a variety of magazines, or great books about dogs. Perhaps we could do it here.
For starters, if you are interested in Canine Genetics and the Canine Genome Project, see the current issue of _American Scientist_:
Ostrander, Elaine A., “Genetics and the shape of dogs,” Am. Sci. 95 (5) Sept.-Oct. 2007: 406-414.
Also, this month's issue of _National Geographic_ has a discussion on zoonotic diseases and how they are transpired between humans and animals. It is not about dogs, but there is obvious relevance. It also has a one page review of the standard top canine taboos: alcohol, coffee, chocolate, mac. nuts, garlic, onions and grapes.
That's what I have for now. Has anyone read anything particularly interesting about canines recently because I want to read it, whatever it is, trust me.
I am a nervous wreck...my little sweetie pie is in surgery as we speak getting spayed. I know she's in great hands, but it's still hard!! Please wish us luck. Thank you, and I'm glad to be a member of this neighborhood. You all have such precious little ones! If you would like to check out my Pebbo, you can see her on our ME page. She is a rare colored red and white Boston terrier.
