I am looking for a GPS receiver that plugs into a DB9 port. I don't need any other options, so I am looking for an inexpensive solution. Any suggestions?
All Garmin buyers on E Bay should take notice of Garmin's statement (on their web site) that ANY E Bay (Garmin) item DOES NOT HAVE ANY WARRANTY. And....For example, a BRAND NEW Garmin 760 from Amazon is now less than $200.00 with a full guarantee and the latest maps. Many of the "remanufactured" units come up as "previously registered" with Garmin, making warranty registration and updates not available on top of their policy about E Bay purchases. This "no warranty" on E Bay items is quite common with most manufacturers.
Whats your opion? I.am looking for a GPS the preforms well in heavy woods. I.ve had sevreal And all fall short when I get in the cover of trees. Does anyone own one that really works. Please no car GPS s they are useless in the woods.
I am a 43 year old female adverturist that purchased my first mountain bike when I was 38 years old. My first ride at Croom in Withlacoochee National Forrest was exciting and fun, but I did get lost for a while. It was my first time in this area and there are several trails (hiking and horse trails) that also cross the bike trails. I soon learned one trail and never deviated from that trail for several years for fear of getting lost. Then I found a Garmin Edge 205 Cyclocomputer that was also a GPS and I was ecstatic! This is exactly what I needed! Now I bike the other 50 miles of trail with a new found bravery! I am also on a quest to map out the region by downloading my rides into National Geograpic TOPO Maps.
Now when I bike, hike, or kayak, I always bring my Garmin Edge to give me the security I need when exploring.
I have the Garmin one...And let me say I've tried map questing an address and Oh Boy It gives you the Runarounds all over town lol...Now the gps on the other hand it really gives you the short cuts and also avoids the tolls I just love it....! Do you?
I've been researching eBay & online pricing of the Garmin nuvi 880. I found a $419 +$14.95 S&H at large online camera distributor. The price actually changed to $549 while item was in "shopping cart" I called their 800 number and was conclude the online purchase at that price and they would adjust the price actually charged to my card to $429. In that phone discussion, I also learned this unit required a $169 North America map. It became obvious to me this was a scam and I instantly cancelled the order. Does anyone know for certain if eBay and online sellers are buying foreign wholesale Garmin units to get better pricing for selling cheap but leaving the dumb North American buyer to discover he'll have to unexpectedly spend and least another $99 to acquire the necessary North American Map?

I just gave away my less than a year old Garmin 660 as the battery was agonizing and I was unable to use the device for any length of time unless it was connected to an outside power source. I am therefore now shopping for a new GPS which SHALL NOT be a Garmin for this single and to me most important factor. The argument by Garmin about technical progress making the device obsolete --before-- the battery finally expire is purely frivolous and seems to me as built in obsolescence in order to boost sales. After I paid for it with good old Uncle Sam greenbacks, it is mine and it is up to me to decide when to replace it not the prerogative of some slick and greasy little fiend in a marketing department. It is also my prerogative to carry with me one, two.. ten replacement batteries if it strikes my fancy. Therefore, Garmin... Hasta Le Bye Bye.... Any recommendation for a GPS WITH user replaceable battery would be appreciated.
Hi, I have used a Magellan once before and found it to be user friendly. I had no difficulty entering in the addresses. Problem is I am moving to Salt Lake City, Utah and the streets there are numbered in the front and then there is another number such as 2200 West 1200 South. Do you think this would be a problem with the GPS? I currently live in California and just need something to help me with my new town, rather than mapping everything or holding a stack of googled directions. Any advice is appreciated. Also, I am nervous about the "refurbished to factory standards" and would prefer new unless it is a waste of money.
Just a heads up, noticed alot of auctions for the 360. According to the Garmin website, this model is discontinued. I'm not sure if they honor the warranty on the discon. items.
I am looking at the dashboard beanbags. I use a Garmin Nuvi 760 widescreen and travel in different cars often. I don't want to put an adhesive mounting disk on the dash. Some states don't allow the suction cup mount on the windows. Please provide information on the beanbags. Are they all non-skid? Round vs rectangle? With or without the pivot attachment? Please help before I buy.
Also, I want to get a carrying bag. It must protect the screen and hold the charger attachment. What do you suggest?
