Hello, I have collected, sold, and have generally been interested in McIntosh labs for over 30 years. If you have a question or comment, post one, I'll be happy to answer or assist in any way I can !
Hello all - I recently bought a pair of McIntosh XL10 loudspeakers from a seller in Gloucester, MA for $75. the 8" woofer/mid and 10" passive radiator refoam kits have been ordered, but there is a soft grey foam surrounding the woofer/mid and the radiator, and also covering the radiator diaphragm. For a pic of this speaker click http://www.roger-russell.com/speakers2.htm#xl10
Anybody know if this grey foam is important, and where I can get it and/or new passive radiator diaphragms?
Im new to the building of tube amps and Iv repaired two Epi Jr. heads and a silvertone 1484 twin 12. Iv also built a Fender 5e3 circuit and It sounds great. Im about to try some other guitar amp designs in the very low watt size. Would anyone know where I could find half watt and quarter watt power tranys as well as sound output tranys. I would also like to add, does anyone have a good parts guy that I could email? Thanks Greg
I am a collector of Vintage Marantz Equipment. Just wondering if I can get a comment on which speakers would be of the most benefit for the Classical Music Listener who owns a Marantz 240, a Marantz 3250B, a Marantz 6150 ( w/ Ortofon Cart.) and a current Marantz CD 48? Comments are welcomed.
Help! I contacted McIntosh Labs directly and found a nice price list of "gifts and collectibles" but there are no pictures of the products on their website. I'd like to buy my Dad a t-shirt and maybe a t-shirt for myself as well. I searched the Internet and found nothing. I searched eBay and found nothing. I would like to buy direct from McIntosh but don't like to buy anything without seeing it first. Please help!
I am not very sure that the KEF Reference 107 is easy to drive. I have a pair together with various TDL, Rogers etc. I have had the previlege of owing 64 pairs of verious speakers and also solid state and valve amplifiers. I would say that It'svery difficult to find better than McIntosh amplifers if you take time to listen rather than hearing them. I've used Brystons, McIntosh, and other big names but I will just underlign something particular about McIntosh that I have never had the change to feel in sound stage delivery from any other make. However The Kef 107 have a major problem of excessive brightness at upper midrange-lower high registry which is one the main reason why I still have them but stored them in the atic for many years. I enjoy the privilege of having to decide of which speaker set I will listen to over the weekend. The miraculous solution I found few years ago that addressed the issue of brightness of the KEF 107 with a bryston and Mcintosh amplifier is to have ( don't lough at me yet unless you tryt) a NAD 3020 or APT Holman at the preamp stage. Very interesting twick.High frequencies becames silky and such a definition at upper midrange that you feel the singers in your sofa. It worth trying before spending unecessary bucks on so call High ends.
