Hi to all you book lovers! To the sellers who don't ship in a box: It really ruins the books when you ship in a bubbled mailed or just plain envelope. Books need to be shipped in a box with the proper padding so the book cannot move around during transition. We collectors don't want bumped corners or a tear in the dj unless we knew that's what we were buying to start with! If you only knew how many people don't buy from you a second time because you don't read our notes. Rather than leave negative feed back we just don't buy from you again!!
Yes, April 4, 2008, it is called Three Kings, and they are coming for book signing as well, first time in history that there will be three Kings doing this. C'mon give 'em up! send me an e-mail with the price if ya got them. I need 2. It will be at the Folger theatre which is 201 east capitol st. se, washington, dc.
The following post may upset and offend some of you. Please understand that I love Stephen King's work as much as anyone, and would like nothing more than for him to go on forever writing great stories, like It, The Stand, the Dark Tower series, etc. That being said, let us begin the discussion:
For those of you who have read, or are reading Just After Sunset, his newest collection of short stories, what do you think?
Quite frankly, I'm pretty disappointed so far (halfway through the stories). At least three of the stories that I've read so far seem almost carbon copies of stories I read years ago by different authors, or have heard as folk tales my entire life. Stories about phone calls back from the dead (or letters in past stories) have been written for years. Seeing the future in a dream? Been there, done that.
What it is seeming like to me is that King has taken some tried-and-true campfire/ghost stories and basically rewritten them (slightly) in his own style. I keep waiting for a story about the man with the hook, or the hitchhiker that disappears on down the road.
As he stated in his own words, some people think he could write a grocery list and sell a million copies - well, at least a grocery list would be original.
Maybe King is running out of ideas? What do you think?
P.S. If you want to include a plot spoiler, please mark it as such - I'll be happy to go into more detail of the stories later, and will make sure I do so.
So we all have our fave book, character and movie, but do the books of Bachman outshine the King. Is The Long Walk a better read than Firestarter.? Desperation or The Regulators.? Blaze v Cell.? Does Pet Sematary creep you out more than Thinner.?
So all SK fans know almost everyone of his stories that goes to the big screen gets botch and cut to you know what. My question is what movie totally disgusted you. By this I mean because it was cut so bad it had no business having the SK name attached to it.
The movie that did it for me was Needful things. The book was great but the movie was just sad
The skeleton crew short story to big screen. I hope its better than 1408. I was really dissapointed with it. but not as bad as Lawnmower man runningman adapts I guess. I just felt that 1408 lacked anything spooky in the movie special effects are great but stink for scares. I am crossing my fingers when i see this one. Hopefully it will be like the stand, or secret window.
There are so many vivid, real characters in Kings fiction. Which one stands out for you. My personal favourite is Bart Dawes from Roadwork. Some of the minor characters are memorable too, how about Henry Bowers (IT),Collie Entragion (DESPERATION), Ginelli (THINNER), Le Bay (CHRISTINE) and of course Stephen King (THE DARK TOWER) I could go on, but, hey you guys tell me who you love and why?
So c`mon guys who makes your toes curl?, who gave you sleepless nights?, who made you wanna scream? Kings biggest and baddest villain award goes to....... Well for me it has to be IT, aka PENNYWISE aka BOB GRAY etc I mean that character ripped kids apart, murdered and mutilated and terrified. As bad as it gets surely,,,,, or do you guys know different?
There as sadly been lots of talk since THE ACCIDENT about King retiring. (God forbid) However when the fateful day does arrive which book would you choose to remember the great man by. What novel would you reccomend to future generations as archetypal King.?
Hello everyone. For those who have seen the movie "the Mist", check this out. The main character in it is an artist who designs movie posters. I think in one of the scenes early in the movie, when we're in his studio, I see a movie poster w/ a gunslinger on it, he looks eerily close to Roland in the Dark Tower! Anybody see this? Am I just imagining things or could this forshadow an upcoming Dark Tower movie? Thoughts?
I know this will stir some people up, but I know all of you have some stories or novels that just didn't appeal to you. What Stephen King stories have you read that just left you thinking, "man, did he really write this garbage?" Of course, this is all just opinion, so please explain why you don't like something.
I really did not like The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon, Dreamcatcher, and From a Buick 8. None of these books ever sat right with me, and I regretted losing the time spent reading them.
Perhaps it was the lack of supernatural in Tom Gordon, but I was very disappointed with the ending.
In Dreamcatcher, everything seemed implausible, even for a Stephen King novel - and nothing flowed well - it seemed choppy.
Finally, From a Buick 8 just didn't make sense, and no questions were ever answered.
