Here is a chance for you to clear out your scrap bins and get some unique, personalized stocking stuffers in return.
I am a maker of small woodstuffs. The most popular being my name keychains.
I recently sent out a mailer to dealers of domestic and exotic hardwoods, asking them to sell me figured scrap/cutoffs by the pound. Out of about 15 dealers, only one replied with a reasonable deal.
I started thinking about how I am with my scraps and how other woodworkers save every last little piece of their precious stock and then I thought of this idea.
Here is my proposal.
For every 2 pounds of interesting or figured hardwood you send me, I will carve you one (1) name keychain (retail price $6.00) either out of the wood you send me or of the oak, walnut and maple I have in stock, your choice.
Here are my guidelines for the deal; 1. You have to identify the wood(s) you send me. I am not that knowledgable about exotic and uncommon domestic woods, so I’ll trust your judgement. 2. Wood must be dry. Kiln dried or air dried to a minimum 10-12% 3. Woods of oak density or harder only. (I can’t use poplar or balsa or other soft hardwoods) 4. No pieces smaller than 5/8 × 5/8 × 3”. 5. You pay postage for what you send me. I pay postage for what I send you.
Wood formerly used in fine furniture acceptable if interesting (ie. Crotch mahogany, burl figured).
I am flexible. If you have any other ideas for swap, I’d be open to suggestions.
My keychains are a great personal, handmade and inexpensive gift.
To make my items a little more unique, I am continually adding new woods from around the world. Recently, Cuban Mahogany, Narra, Alexandrian Laurel, Pau Amarello (yellowheart) and Brazilian Cherry have been added to my wood bins.
Hello Fellow woodworkers, I'm looking for a certain kind of tail vise,-I'm not sure of the correct name or term for it though. Perhaps someone could suggest a new or better place for me to search for this item. I'm converting a large slab of a butchering table into a proper cabinetmakers bench. The tail vises that I have seen on the market are not configured for what I wish mine to do, or the way that it gets mounted. I explain, The moving portion or jaw will be a one foot long four inch deep block that moves to the right. the jaw is the right hand front section of the table. I wish the hardware to be mounted onto the section of bench which is directly behind the jaw. That is to say I don't want to reccess the hardware into the table top by carving out huge chunks of the rest of the table (4"thick BTW) I'd rather have all that hardwre off to the back, and under the table, and have the jaw slide on a large strong dovetail slide. Any thoughts or suggestions ??

I am looking for a deal on a second-hand Lumber Smith band saw. Anybody in this neighborhood who has one or knows of one that could be buyable, please let me know. I can pick it up if it is around So. Calif. or would pay freight. It doesn't matter to me if the blade is broken, or maybe a wheel or other part is broken or missing. However, the main aluminum castings should be in good shape. Also, I don't mind if the motor is missing or doesn't run...the price should reflect any of this. Thanks for reading my post! Hope you can ask a friend if they know of one. This is a great neighborhood.
Hi, I am new to EBay selling. I sell new woodworking machinery for a living and have started selling used woodworking machinery on EBay. Most of these items come directly from cabinet shops and furniture shops. They are industrial grade. If you are looking for something for your home shop or are starting a new shop. Let me know. I have tons of stuff from over the years and know plenty of shop owners who have stuff in the corners of there shops that they don't use. I am starting to list items now but don't have the time to list eveything.
I have several patterns for items that I make and sell on my website here at Ebay, I was wondering, is there a market for pattern sales or plan for building things like wooden toy trains and christmas ornaments, I would also like to make the patterns and sell them as well as my finished product. What insight do all of you have?
We are so glad we found a group like yours! We are an eco-friendly toy comapny based in Seoul, South korea. We've just opened our new e-bay store to try and sell to a larger more international market, at

While we are new (4 years) to online retailing through eBay, we are not a new sawmilling company. Our family has had a mill in the same location for 99 years. (Looking forward to the century mark in '09). We have been amazed at the kindness of the eBay community toward us. Up until this venture, we only sold wholesale, with the exception of retail rough framing lumber. We make railroad ties, pallet stock, and cabinet grade boards. Now, we seem to be into everything, and need some help finding our stride, I think.
The wholesale business is still the bulk of what we do. From our timber, we select a small amount of the lumber that comes across the mill for the eBay market. We also salvage unusual trees: a box-elder blow-down here, an overgrown lawn tree there, etc.
I know many of you have been gracious enough to purchase from us over the past few years. As you look at our listings, what items can we stop offering? Maybe you can get them at a reasonable price locally to you and save the shipping cost, or for some other reason, they're not appealing. What items are we not offering that we should?
We still harvest 99% of our timber ourselves and usually only have native Pennsylvania trees to work with.
Your comments are appreciated. Feel free to offer suggestions on the actual listing visual experience, as well. Also, if you have made something from our products, we would love photos!
Thanks to all who have the time to take a look and give us some advice.
