Traveling through Asia, I just acquired a handful of fake silver US coins in an open market. There were literally dozens of vendors selling thousands of coins, and most were saying they sold their wares on eBay. The quality of these fakes are uncanny, and some of the more expensive counterfeits are make with the proper metals, not just a cheap alloy. Most cheap fakes can be spotted by the trained numismatist by the inaccurate legends and improper weight, yet these coins coming out of China are getting harder to spot. And what's worse is that they are flooding the market with fake coins that the unwary amateur can get fooled into buying. And for you ancient coin collectors out there... I'm seeing a new flood of fake Chinese ancients too. I'm not an expert in ancient Chinese coins, but I do know that the same street vendors selling fake US coinage are getting supplied with ancient coins from the same shops in China... according to their own words. As always, Buyer BEWARE! And better yet, stay away from US coins from Asian sellers.

I tend toward being an A-Type personality: but there is definately not as much enjoyment for me in filtering through "real" morgan dollars and fake morgan dollars on eBay. It turns my stomach. The latest is an ad title that asks if it a fake or real a Morgan. From my point of view, a fake
morgan is not a morgan and should not even be alowed in the "coins"
section. This is actually more frustrating that listening to the Bush talk.
This society is going the wrong way in a hurry. I am going to buy morgans at a local coin shop. Ebay can take a hike.
