The U.S. Mint isn't about to tell its workers in Philadelphia and Denver to take a six-month vacation, but it could judging from the coin demand target it is aiming for in 2009.

The Federal Reserve System has placed orders for just 3 billion coins in 2009, down over 70 percent from the 2008 production level of 10.1 billion.

With approximately 1.2 billion coins struck already in the first three months of the year, that leaves eight months into which to divide production of just 1.8 billion coins. In the year 2000 the Mint was striking more than that per month.

The Mint says it will build a coin inventory, but unless the Treasury plans to stockpile the current commemorative Lincoln cents as it once did Morgan silver dollars, with its current business approach, it is hard to envisage the Mint going too far beyond projected coin needs.

Current workers, though, will embark on a six-month productivity maintenance effort that will assure future capacity. The Mint will also undertake capital improvements and maintenance that would be difficult to do with presses operating at a more normal pace.

A hiring freeze also has been imposed.

Already there is a scramble by collectors to acquire 2009 pieces because of their perceived scarcity. These target can only increase that perception.

how lucky can one man get? this week I will be taking delivery of a 2003 sc 430! the cool thing is, it is my second lexus. i am currently the owner of a 1994 ls 400 anniversary edition of which i beleive only 1200 were ever made. mileage on my 94 ls 400...... only 28,000 miles. did ya have to read that again? 28,000 miles. it still looks new. and I swear it still smells new. or, it's probably my imagination. I have been offered at least 75% of the original sticker price! by a lexus salesman no less! now, just fooling around on ebay, looking at watches(my other passion) i decided to click on "view sellers other items" and there it was, the most beautiful "absolutely red" sc 430 I have ever seen! A 2003 sc with, now get this... only 15,863 miles!! I had to bid on it. I convinced my wife, sold a couple of "Franck Muller" watches, and, won the bid!!! oh happy day! I now own 2 Lexus'. how many can say that? My absolutely red sc will be here by friday . I can't sleep, I can't stand still. maybe you saw the car on ebay. the seller ives in long beach new york. it is immaculate to say the least. the pics don't lie. and when he says it wasn't even ever driven in snow or rain, I beleive him. always garaged, no smoke,etc. the interior looks (and technically) is. so I am getting what amounts to a new sc 430 for 1/3 the price. how lucky is that? I am blessed. Vanity plates? still writing em down. such as ... reddream, rredream, gotta go, gotta fly, arrived(like that one) thanxma, y-not, c-ya, koolex,coolex, can't make up our minds. but, not worried about it at this time. so, lexus lovers you can see why I joined this forum, not to brag, but to express my joy to people who would get it. my fellow lexus owners. later, Mikey (Mamba Mike).

We lost our beloved 10 yr. old Golden Retriever, Samantha, two years ago. She never let on that she was ill. She had slowed down some in recent months, but we thought that it was due to her age. Anyway, she became obviously ill on a Friday, and we went to the vet. They did blood work and said that they would have results on Saturday. No results came back. She became worse on Sunday and we took her to an emergency clinic. They ran tests and said that she had lymphoma. She died two days later. We hadn't had time to absorb the fact that she was so seriously ill, before we lost her. We have two other wonderful and very much adored Goldens, yet, it is still difficult to think about or talk about Samantha, without being reduced to tears, even two years after her passing. Just writing this has me reaching for the tissue box. Is there anyone out there who is going through similar heartache...

I am fairly new to eBay. I am not new to wearing silver jewelry. When I would buy it for myself, I would go to a reputable store in my area and pick something out. Now that I am an eBay seller, I have found two bracelets that I bought because they were giving them away. They look like silver but I am not sure they are. The price would not be indicative because it was an estate sale. How can I tell for sure so I can tell my buyers? Thank you in advance for your comments.

(and guys)I saw this bag and am interested but I'm not sure if it is authenyic-- I've read that the stitching on the beige bag is darker brown and that the lock should have diagonal--it's not but otherwise looks real-but I guess they all do. I am selling my Grandmas Barbie Collection of over 20 years. I have recently came across a Barbie that I can't find any thing on it. The Barbie is called Appreciation Barbie it has no stock #, serial #, above the Mattel logo nor does it have a date or any writing any where on the box, except Appreciation Barbie and the Mattel logo. On the back of the box the writing is only Thank You in about 10 different languages. Can anyone help me? I will be putting it on auction soon.
