I purchased a Coach bag on Ebay- The tags says Coach New York??? Is it real???? It has the marking of a real bag but unsure of the the tag. Also, I bought a PDA holder- it doe not have the YKK zipper but it has an outlet mark? I took to a coach store and they said no based on the fact that the zipper is not ykk? Does anyone know anything that may be useful?
you should try contacting the person you bought it from and ask them what the coach store told you and when buying something online you should try to get it with original reciept and bag usually ppl who have those really took care of their things and you know it's authentic
If you check the logo to see if it matches an authentic logo, use a magnifying glass if you need to for small nuances. Also, hanging threads or glue strands are a sure sign of a fake. How about the scent? Does it smell more synthetic than real leather? Is the leather thin?
I'm not sure if counterfeiters use the outlet mark yet either. They can fake anything though, even a receipt. Everything needs to be studied very carefully.
YKK is just a brand name for a zipper. I have jeans and jackets that have YKK zippers, and they are not Coach products. It means next to nothing other than it is a "good quality" brand of zipper. Some Coach products have YKK zippers and some do not. I have bought and sold many authentic Coach products; I would never use that as a mark of authenticity, and find it difficult to believe that a Coach representative would have told you that! You can contact the knowledgeable shoppers at knowknockoffs.com or the PurseForum.com & send good quality, detailed pics of the items in question. It will also help them if you can send the registration number or the style number from the inside of the product. They have many many resources which they can check and assist you.
I agree with morethanvanilla about the zipper, this is not a way to tell authenticity. Unfortunately Coach associates don't always know about "fakes." I would suggest asking a Coach Manager, they are better trained.
" fakefendihandbags" and you will be able to find their website. It is an informational website on how to spot fake Coach bags, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, etc......It is totally awesome. The words 'fakefendihandbags' is in the web address.
We've seen fakes now with YKK zippers--either they are fake YKK or counterfeiters are buying YKK zippers. Has anyone seen an outlet mark yet on a fake bag?
Hi, I just went in search of some info and found this website, which suggests some ways to spot a fake Coach handbag. Give it a try ... http://www.bagbliss.com/counterfeits/coach/ ... I wasn't able to find the fakefendihandbags site, but plan to continue looking. I, too, have a Coach that I'm not certain is real. Good luck.
I have never in the ten years that I have been buying Coach bags, seen markings to the effect of "CoachNewYork" on a bag. One way to indicate if the bag is authentic or not is to check the back of the bag. One rule of thumb in verifying an authentic from an imitation is it's symmetry. If the C's look symmetrical around any and all symmetry and/or pockets, then there is a better chance the bag is real. The bag will look like it flows togheter appear to look like it was made out of one piece of material. Also, the Coach Creed on the inside of the bag will ALWAYS be puffy, meaning, the actual tag itself will be puffy and not flat. The feet on the bag will have the shape of a cup versus being round or flat, and if the bag is older, the leather parts (ALL COACH BAGS WILL have REAL Leather) will have acquired a patina over the leather material. The Coach tag will also have a brass rivet that connects itself to the bag itself instead of any other material. Hope this helps!
I buy and sell authentic items on ebay. First, Coach was originally made only in New York City. Now they are made all over the place (except Korea). If it says made in New York City it is vintage and if it is still in great condition, luck you. A lot of people collect the Coach vintage purses. Second, you cannot authenticate an item by taking it to a retail store, the employees are not educated in the items from the early years. As for the outlet mark, the fakers are great at that and they even will put in an authentic registration number. The ONLY way to tell a fake from authentic is to send the item to Coach New York. It will cost $20. They will authenticate the item. However, if it is not authentic they will keep it and destroy it. They will also want to know where the item was purchased and for how much. This could work to your advantage or disadvantage, depending on how much you paid for the item. If you tell them it was purchased on Ebay they will immediately destroy the item whether it is authentic or not. Sorry this info is not more helpful. Bottom line, if you bought a purse you like and it is a nice item, you got a great price and it seems authentic, be happy. But if you are a stickler, you should probably not be buying off ebay. I hope some of this helps. Good luck in your future ebay purchases.
I have to agree with piano's reply. Don't tell them you got it on ebay because they will always tell you its fake and I hate to say it many people who work in retail stores nowadays are absolute morons who don't know or care about the products they sell (not all but MANY). Basically, if you want to be 100% sure you're better off going to a Coach retail store or an outlet store and paying their prices. Tags are tough because my mom has a vintage coach bag and back then they were made in the good old USA! Now they are made all over the place. I have one that was made in China that I bought at legit store etc and I was actually kinda shocked that Coach would do that... but they do!
Why don't you look for people listing with a return policy based on authenticity? I list all of my Coach purses with a double your money back return policy if you bring it to a Coach store and they tell you its fake... I don't have a problem with it since I purchase them myself from the store and can provide receipts AND bank account statements if necessary. Most people selling fake purses wont offer a return policy based on authenticity. Also, here are some other things I have learned over time: all Coach receipts have the Coach logo on the back of them, there is NEVER plastic wrap on the handles, the legacy line has gold writing printed on the leather creed inside the purse as opposed to the regular engraved leather creed.
