My father just recently passed away, he was an avid ham operator for many years. I have his collection of equipment and I really do not know how to go about selling it. Some are Marantz, Kenwood, etc. If anyone knows how I can sell this equipment, I would greatly appreciate it. I am located in Pennsylvania. Thank you all for your time.
My deepest sympathy towards your loss. As far, as your fathers collection is concerned Kenwood makes one of the finest Ham equipment around. You may want to do some research before you start listing your late father's equipment. You definitely want to make sure that the equipment is in good working condition, well if it isn't you may get lesser bids, and of course the heavier the equipment the harder it is to ship not to mention packing it properly. Hope this helps. Regards...John Griffith
Find one of your Father's trusted Ham friends. Ask him/her to look over the equipment. Ask him to help sell the equipment. Your Father's friend may know people locally who would love to buy your Father's old gear, because they know how he took care of it.
You Dad likely belonged to a local Ham club. There is usually someone in the club who handles equipment sales for 'SK' members of the club, and equipment is offered to member first before going out to eBay, QSL, etc. Trust Hams first, as they will know the value, and you will not get 'robbed', as they will want to treat the widow right, and keep the gear in the Ham community so that CBers who operate illegally with the amps, etc, will not get the gear. Let me make one suggestion. I don't know about your dear Dad, but in my shack (and many other hams I know as well) we have some working equipment in top shape. And we also tend to have a few "I got this to fix it later" radios. So getting a trusted ham in there to check out the stuff for you is a great idea. Which radio has extra options, such as CW or SSB filters? What cables, power supplies, etc. go with which rig? This can greatly help your sale of the equipment.
