Are you kidding me? NO ONE IS TOO OLD FOR AMERICAN GIRL!!!! :-) I am 16 as well and have fifteen AG dolls and am still collecting. My other almost 16 year old friend has five or six and still loves them as well. I mainly just display mine and change their clothing, but I still like buying new things for them and reading their books. It makes me feel younger again and I love their stories and lessons that they teach. I have: 1. Samantha. 2.Nellie. 3. Josefina. 4. Kit. 5. Kirsten. 6. Pre-Mattel Felicity. 7. Mattel Felicity. 8. Elizabeth. 9. Addy. 10. JLU doll I named Carly. 11. Lindsey. 12. Kailey. 13. Jess. 14. Nicki. 15. Mia, and soon to be 16. Rebecca. I'm not sure I will ever stop liking them!! It's a little embarassing to admit sometimes that I collect dolls, but most people don't really care, especially when I tell them what my collection is worth because I have so many retired and limited edition dolls and outfits!!!
As long as you still have fun collecting and enjoying them, you will never be too old for American Girl and the wonderful lessons and joy they give people!
You are never to old to start collecting AG dolls. Are anything else that you like. The things you collect may change, but collecting is a passion that lasts a lifetime.
Thanks. I currently have Mia, Josefina, Kaya, and Kailey, although I do have another Mia and a Samantha that I have put away as investments. I love randomly flipping through the catalogues. Yeah, mine are usually on display or in storage, although I'd still like more. I'm glad I'm not the only one though :)
I don't think there is an age limit on collecting anything - especially dolls. I have been collecting American Girl dolls for about 3 years now and have 18 of them and got 3 in the mail from Ebay today! I will be 70 years young on 7/15!
I also love babydolls and reborn dolls that I paint myself!
Keep collecting and loving dolls, it is a wonderful hobby/habit etc!
I have 15 American Girl Dolls, I love them all, and I want more. I love their clothes, accessories, and furniture and I intend to keep collecting. I am 55 years old and have loved these dolls since they came out. I also collect Antique Dolls.
Your never to old to play with AG Dolls!!!! My Grandmom loves them even though she doesn't have one!!! She spoils me with stuff for mine. So like I said... 16 is fine to still love dolls!!
I wondered the same thing when I was 16. If you love them now chances are you will never out grow the way you feel for them. Im 32 now and still love my cabbage patch kids.I still collect them. I tried getting rid of some when I was in my early 20s because I thought I needed to act mature. Don't do it! Its better to store them away. I miss my CPK twin dolls I gave away but am glad I still have my first 3.
No never! I spent almost 12 hours over one weekend on my first visit to the AG store in Chicago and carried my doll around. I was 21 yrs old on that visit!
Hi Katedale-I am a young woman of 69 and love my dolls. I have 7 AG dolls,my first was Mollie given to me by my husband almost 20 years ago.I have Samantha, Kirsten, Josephina, Kaya, the original curly haired doll, and a just like me doll. I have 3 sister dolls from Gotz, 3 Neighborhood girls and 1 boy. 6 Madame Alexander 18" dolls. 4 18" Syndees dolls that I dressed myself with 18th century bustle dresses. I have 3 Disney princess dolls. I love to dress them and am now finishing the 16th dress for the 12 dancing princesses(got carried away). I now have in residence 2 Tolly tots, and 3 Battat 18"dolls that I have rewigged and am dressing for disadvantaged girls for Christmas(can't afford AG from Ebay. Twelve of the girls not wearing princess dresses are dressed in Halloween costumes. As you can tell-I LOVE my 18"girls. my granddaughter we raise has 5 AG dolls and 3 Madame Alexander ones, she loves them too and is 12. You go girl, just remember someon invented them and others work daily to make them. They're not children. Gramma of 11
NO WAY! I am 25, and still collecting. American Girl dolls represent one of the best parts of my childhood for me as well as helped to develop my passion for reading, outlook on world views and my fascination of history. I still can spout off random historical facts that impress my peers, and I retained the knowledge from the "looking back" sections of the books. Enjoy what you love :)
It makes me feel better to see all these responses! I started collecting at age 14 and just a few days ago turned 20. Still love them to death! Just bought Felicity with my birthday money! But I do get jeers from people occasionally, so it's best to keep my collection to myself and the online realm! But here's another girl saying it's never too old! :D
Too old at 16? Are you kidding! I am 35 and LOVE playing with dolls! If your friends think your weird for this, shame on them!!! Do not stop collecting just because your peers may find it strange right now! No offense but most 16 year olds are strange or at least from another planet...LOL... I have a son who is almost there! Anyway, I play with my dauhters dolls all the time...even when they are at school I will change the dolls clothes and brush their hair! I have just recently started to buy my own AG dolls too. I do have to hide them from my 6 year old who is a doll freak like her momma! If she new I have my own collection she would overtake them...I will not get any playtime in! LOL! So see I am 35 and love to play with my dolls. Our complete collection includes: Lindsey, Kailey, Marisol, Jess, Nicki, Mia, Chrissa, Sonali, Gwen, Samantha, Nellie, 2 Kirsten dolls, Felicity, Elizabeth, Emily. Kaya, 2 original girl of today dolls, 3 just like you dolls, blonde bitty baby, African American bitty baby, brunette bitty twins. I am also expecting the arrival of two more AG dolls in the mail. I am just giddy thinking about them. I cannot wait to play with them. I just purchased that new JLY doll with the red curley hair and blue eyes. I also bought a HTF retired lt brown hair grey eyes Today doll. I am sooooo excited to see them!! I also have many cabbage patch from the early 80's-love them too!!! Our home is becoming one big doll house!!! We have doll clothes, furniture, etc...coming out of the woodwork...LOL! OMG we have Julie too...how could I possibly have forgottin about poor sweet Julie!
I had to laugh when I read Ash4791's message. My sons will be her age in a few years.
If you want to know if 16 is too old to collect AG dolls, why not ask all the grandmother's who collect them to cast a vote.
Although I started collecting the historical dolls for my granddaughter, and managed to amass all of the original ones in about 8 weeks — at 7 years of age, she's just beginning to show an interest in them now . . . so except for the 3 I bought and gave to her (a little too early, I now realize) I am their temporary custodian . . . and enjoying every minute.
Although I now have all the dolls I had set out to collect, as well as most of the AG Dolls of the Year (except for Julie, who really didn't interest me that much and Chrissa, whom I loved, but also would have wanted her two friends, which I could not afford) . . . like other AG collectors, I suspect . . . I have a couple of favorites, too: Molly and Kit, whose life stories and accessories remind me of my own years as a child. (Kit actually is a little before my time, but many of her accessories touched my life, too. For example, I still remember my grandmother's old-fashioned stove; my mother's big old wringer/washing machine and how she used to preserve fruits and jellies every fall.)
That's probably why I was willing to to sit on the phone from 4:30 am until after 7:00 trying to place an order for her Preserving Equipment on Cyber Monday. . . . and because the AG website was so jammed — another hour later in the morning, until I finally got through to Customer Service. But I was able to get the set!! I can hardly wait for it to arrive, so I can play with it.
i just checked into AG discussion on how old is too old and i have to admit i haven't started collecting AG yet except for Bitty Baby i rescued from the "take it or leave it" section of our dump.... that was a lucky day ! but i have rescued maybe 50 CP kids from the same area, they go through the wash and air dry and i dress them. i have about 20 in my own collection and i have given away at least 30 and i'm 63 ! my firends know i collect but i don't think they know how important my dolls are, someday i want to dress them all in sailor clothes. i thought my love of dolls was because i didn't have them when i was a child and the shrinks would have a field day with that !
