I hope to God that I don't make myself out looking all sheltered or whatever, but I was just wondering.. where does this word "cosplay" come from? I mean.. what does it mean? and perhaps (maybe) why? See, I love anime way too dang much, as much as probably all of you out there, and I want to learn more and more about different things concerning it.

And this may not be relevant, but I was thinking maybe someone here might know the answer to this question after so many times of asking elsewhere and getting nothing. Does anyone know someone on eBay or maybe just if there is a website where you can purchase Japanese Teen/Junior Goth/Punk-ish (or not) type of clothes?? I hope someone can help. Thanks for reading. Take care all!

yep im a cosplayer as well
ive already started filling my closet up with various costumes. such as zelos of tales of symhonia, kyo kusanagi of king of fighters, cloud of final fantasy 7, and light from death note.

ive basically attended most of the midwest anime conventions once or twice already. but there arent many nor or they all that great but i guess i have to take and try and enjoy what i can get.
in response to your question synthetique_gurl
cosplay is basically short for "costume play"
so cosplay is basically jsut dressind up in costumes. usually of anime or game characters. but also sometimes rock stars or movie characters.
as for why?
well if youre wondering why people do it i guess youd have to ask specific people. usually i guess just out of admiration for a character and because its fun. plus when wearing the costumes to an anime theres a possibility of meeting other fans of the same thing. and you get to act out your favorite skits from the show for kicks. sometimes things can get very wild..>>

i'm a cosplayer too. i've done "loveless", rei ayanami from neon genesis evangelion, soi fong from bleach, and the traditional "school girl". :]

i was wondering if anyone knew of any cosplay shops that aren't so expensive. human-go cosplay is a good shop and the price for the item is reasonable ((around $50)) but the S&H is the same price as the item i'm buy since it's shipped from hong kong. i don't wanna keep paying that much.

does anyone know of a good quality cosplay costume and wig shop?? o_o

pleeeease!! XD

oh... and medusa_boo... i'm going to fanime 2008! :D

Yea I'm gonna be Hinata from Naruto and my brother's gonna be Sasuke I go to Anime Expo which is going to be at the L.A. Convention Center this year.

The word cosplay probably comes from costume play.
