I have an unusual treddle. It's named "The Free" The wooden cabinet sides go all the way down to nearly the floor. The front swings open and the treddle pedal is elevated. As you lift and open the cover, you also step on the pedal and as both actions occur, the head automatically raises. With the cover open, the balance keeps the head in the operational position. Since the front of the cabinet has been opened, the pedal is exposed and lowered for use. It's new enough that it has a bobbin instead of a shuttle. I'll delivered photos shortly.

Has anyone ever encountered a machine like this brand or design? What might you be able to tell me about it.

I have a Free Treadle machine as well. I love mine. It was my grandmothers and dates to around 1900 to 1910. There is a website you can google to get more info about the company. I found some neat advertisements about the Free online. I have the book, and a host of feet and attachments. I am considering learning how to clean and restore this machine to use. Some people say the sew like a dream.
