If someone could help me decide which machine would be best to keep, I would be grateful! Keep in mind I have'nt sewn in 20 years. I have a Singer 301A and Singer 99k. I LOVE the look of the Black 99k , but the 301A has a bunch of attatchments and does the zig zag thing. I will be reteaching myself to sew soon and dont plan to do ALOT of sewing in the future, just hems and maybe sew a pattern or two, some patches etc. Please give me an opinion on which you would keep & why. Thanks!

I would keep the 301A, for two reasons. One -- it has the zigzag, which means it will sew any and every project you can think of. Secondly, it is a little harder to find than a 99K, so the resale value will be a little higher.

I love old machines too, but I decided if I like one just for its "looks," then I can have the same pleasure from looking at a picture or photograph.
This is how I've dealt with machine-lust generated from looking at too many eBay listings. If I get too antsy and want to buy another machine, I go use one of the many I already own, and think "now when and how would I actually use it?" Machines need to be used and oiled at least occasionally to stay functional, otherwise they seize up.

But -- I bet you knew that already.
What are you going to do with the 99K?
