Singer Zig Zag Stylist model 457,in a carrying case,but no manuals can't seem to find a date...I've seen 1 on ebay with no case,on a table selling for $300,...can any one let me know what year this one is with the carrying case,and any other info. on it?..Donnie
This machine, called the Stylist, dates around 1970. Look at Needlebar dot org for pictures and some description. Don't know about the machine specifically, but that sounds pretty expensive. i've seen similar vintage machines, with cabinets sometimes, on craigslist for less than 50 bucks. people sell either new machines or really old machines for the big bucks! Decent little beginner machine. But as a long-time repairperson I will add that the problem most encountered on Stylist 457 is broken gears in the top. The old nylon gets brittle and shatters if the machine hits a pin, zipper, etc.. Turn the handwheel and see if the bobbin/hook area turns, if not (and you're sure the handwheel clutch is engaged!) there is a broken gear and it is not worth fixing.
