I was browsing through some Apple laptops and desktops and noticed that several members are offering older computers that are brand new in the box. It's funny since they are always $100 - $200 more than you can buy directly from Apple on their refurb section.
Why would someone buy from them when buying refurb from Apple you get the exact same warranty as a new one with full 30 day return privileges and free delivery to offset the sales tax.
Wow, do people buy high end without researching or just doing a fast google. I guess that's why eBay is not what it use to be for used products with these members jacking up second hand equipment and sellin for new.
The refurbished models do come with the same standard Apple Care warrantee but the packaging for the products are clearly marked "Refurbished". Obviously, it's always a good idea to ask the seller if it is a refurbished model if it is not stated in the auction and seems to fit the characteristics you mention.
These sellers sometimes buy dozens from Apples "Hot Deals" section and wait until the item is sold out and post them on here. They usually sell the items in between the latest model and the refurbished price Apple sold it to them. There's really nothing wrong with it because they do take a risk in doing so. There's always a chance the model will be updated while they still hold inventory of the older model. If so, the demand for the older wil drop and prices fall. These sellers have a pretty good idea when to buy and when to sell. Last month, I saw this happen with the older Intel Mac Mini. Some seller was unloading last years model at $500 on average. I have no idea how he made any money. These were cleared out at that same price Apple was selling them on "Hot Deals". Maybe they were making a few dollars on the shipping. Who knows?
