I was cleaning my duo macbook (turned off) one day with an "e-tronic wipes" (anti-static etc) and when I turned the macbook back on, the screen won't work. After a day or two, the windows side works. I can hear the "ding", then I choose pc hard drive (blindly) and then it will load and screen is fine. Now though the screen won't work for neither hard drive; though I can hear the computer booting up and loading. I'm out of warranty. Is this something I can fix myself? Please help.
Sounds like a bad inverter board to me. I doubt it had anything to do the the wipes. Maybe a slight coincidence. I had this same issue on my G4 iMac last year. These inverter boards cost $60 @ http://www.welovemacs.com/9227375.html.
Did you have a high pitched hum shortly before the screen went black? That is usually the inverter telling you it is getting too hot. The very early Macbook Pros had a heat issue that caused these to develop a high pitched hum before they went dead.
Here is the install guide for your macbook. http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/MacBook-Core-Duo/Inverter/86/31/
Tools needed * #00 Phillips Screwdriver (Available just about everywhere) * Spudger (can be bought here for $2.95 http://www.powerbookguy.com/xcart/catalog/Nylon-Spudger-Disassembly-Tool-New-p-16332.html)
or if you can see the actual screen when booted to windows you might have to remove your partition and reinstall the os . if you have a mac and u place this computer in target disk mode _______restart holding t key and use a fire wire and u can migrate ur info over or manually drag ur home folder apps ect over then reinstall the os x
