Why are ebay memebers still paying top dollar for an iPhone when the new model comes out in less than a month. With the 3G having 2-3 times faster service it seems to be the only value of the first generation phones is the iPod feature. It's not worth paying for cell phone service because you'd pay the same monthly fee as you would with the faster 3G model. Surely if you're shelling out $60-$70 a month on service you could fork over $199 for the new phone.
I agree, from what I hear that you will have to activate the iphone in the store and no longer with iTunes... May prevent eBay sellers from selling the new ones huh?
If you go to iphone.com you can get all the information. Not all stores will be carrying the new phone. so preplan your destination. If you are a new customer the cost of the phone is $299 for the 8gig and $399 for the 16 gig. If you want white you have to buy the 16. The rate plans are also online. Your standard data plan is an additional 30 bucks plus add 200 text messages for 5. It will be fantastic for the business person like me as it has push email and calendar and that plan is 45 extra. Comparable to blackberry and blackjack data rate plans. The new blackjack has the push email and calendar so I am really impressed by what I see and will be in line at 7am on friday am to upgrade my current iphone package. ATT has the best plans out there anyway. Also for those of you that are thinking about the samsung clone, you can only get those thru sprint. If I remember correctly sprint does not have a sim chip and therefore it would not be unlockable.
A lot of the ebay customers buying the older phone are able to put prepay minutes on the phone. It can be used with any carrier that has a sim chip. You can not get the 2g phone anywhere except on ebay or craigs list or personal sales. An ATT agent explained to me the difference between the 2g and the 3g is almost like dial up and broadband with the speed of the connection. You are connected all the time to 3g but if you are in an area that does not have 3g it will convert back to the 2g as long as you are in the service area. And still have the ability to go on wi fi which faster still. I am going to be in line to buy the new phone am with att so I listed and sold my phone that I have used for 3 months for the same amount I paid for it. I could have gotten a lot more but am not out to scam anyone. I did not want to wait for the new phone to come out as I figure ebay will be flooded with the 2g phone used. If you are wanting a 2g phone wait until next week. I tracked a total of 175 iphones sold between 355-600 in a 12 hour period the other day. When the new phones come out I bet the price will be way down for a good used one. Just be patient and you will probably see the prices drop significantly a week after the new phone is out. The jailbreakers are working on the new 2.0 update as we speak and you will probably be able to upgrade a jailbroke phone and go to ziphone.com and jailbreak the new update. Cross your fingers.
My next listing is going to be my samsung blackjack i607. I know I will get about 1/2 what I paid for it but oh well.
