So I buy a 2003 A4, with 42,000 miles on it. My wife had taken the car and came back and said the back window is down and won't go up. Oh boy, here we go, I had a VR6 Passat that went through 5 regulators, terrible design. Sure enough, Audi Customer Care stated that even though it is under the the mileage, the car is 4 and 1/2 years old so Audi will not cover it. My thought is breaks, tires, tie rods, rotating parts, you expect to have to replace and or repair but a cable in a window regulator, at a cost of $500.00, give me a break. The AUDI tech himself stated that it should not have failed, there was not evidence of tampering and it failed due to manufactures defect. I have owned plenty of cars and VW and AUDI are the only ones with which I have had this problem, and at such an excessive charge. Their telling me that they can engineer an engine to run in excess of 200,000 miles, but can't design a simple cable mechanism. Anyone else have this problem. I figure WTF, i will take them to small claims, what do I have to lose. I am in Mass so their so called express warranty doesn't necessarily preclude my action. Other than that, love the car.
this should be a very easy fix for an average DIY-er. I just did this fix in my 2001 A6 as it was due to a broken (plastic) window guide. The parts cost me $10 and about 1.5 hours of my time. I would recommend doing a search for this problem and solution on audiworld.com
