i am constatly amazed at the ludracus prices people are paying for home audio on ebay.LET US NOT FORGETMOST OF THIS STUFF IS USED-USED USED.it would seem that there is a lot more people with money than common sense.why would someone want to pay hundreds of dollars for a turntable ,when both records and turntables are obsolete?
Useful Funny
Old turntables high end stuff made in switzerland still command a high dollar - even on Ebay. Also TT are not as abundant and like in the 70's and 80"s

Turntables are not obsolete - there is still a big debate out there vinyls vs cd. Good high end TT stuff hold their value very well.

good luck

I can tell your young. Cut your teeth on CD's and Ipod's. Its called Analog or Digital. Basically Digital is compression, making it smaller, in this case making the audio output smaller to fit in or on a smaller media type whatever it maybe. They don't make each audio output smaller by making it physically smaller they actually Remove segments and reused others that are repeated. Example 5.1 Surround or DTS? DTS more information and much better sound. If you have the chance listen to a good Mid 70's IC Amplifier, Speakers, and T.T. combination. You May hear something you have been missing. Its amazing but analog is coming back. Even some of the more poplar groups are now pressing there music on vinyl. So like my Dad used to say Its only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. Mid 70's to late 70's high end stereo gear will bring top dollar if in good shape. Its just not made any more, and made well. I haven't seen any 40 year old walkman,s or ipod's lately. I take that back a good $3000 AMP and a $4000 dollar speaker (ea), will probably do the same and you can most likely repair them and just not throw them away. So put the ipod down and take the ear buds out of your ear's and listen, and expand the audio experience. So I say No Longer Available. No Longer Available, No Longer Available. Try it you may like it.

hi you still dont see my point.used used used.even if someone descibes the item for sale as mint, there is a thing called a lie.AND yes people pay the prices because they really want the item.still does not mean they arent paying too much.

Michael Just seen some of your replies. Nice personal back ground. I to I'm not that young anymore. I was asked to leave school at age 16, grade 10.Was in the Navy for 6 years. Run my whole life with just common seance. Long story short retired at age 45 after closing my business in 1999, mostly do to the Clinton Administration. I to know of needs and Desires. With out desires you would have no real real business economy or related industry. Common seance should tell people when enough is enough. Unfortunately there has been enough generations born and raised without any common seance, just well educated and the need for something for nothing, or if they have the finances to pay what it takes. This is what drives the cost up even more. This is were the people with common seance quit spending, But wait tell the large spenders try to resale a item, and they have payed 50 to 100 percent to much. Hopefully then they will get some common seance that they didn't get growing up? After all that is what a Auction is all about desires for whatever reason. So try not to Psychoanalyze everything and give common seance a try.

Ego and rhetoric aside, what makes someone happy. For my 2 cents worth, old analog audio gear has 'chutzpah'. It can be unscrewed, dissected, renewed and upgraded. It is often superior, devoid of uneccessary complexity, revered and most importantly appreciated. Most of the old gear was designed to last - and it has. When an Ipod thingy's battery expires its not an easy change - and besides, it would be long gone redundant, its owner upgraded to the latest with a zillion gizmos. It makes me happy buying old stuff on Ebay. In general I have found the Ebay community honest and passionate in their selling and buying. Old gear is very likley going to need some work done on it. If your expectations are realistic, then cutting a deal on Ebay for some old audio gear is what its all about. Listen with open mind, get your screwdriver out - be happy!

Don't worry. Unfortunately for sellers, and to the benefit of buyers, most of the high grade gear sold on eBay is UNDERVALUED. Some members have gone to great lengths and expense to repair/refurbish vintage gear only to sell it for less (sometimes a lot less) than even what was put into it. It's a buyer's market on eBay.

If you've been in this market long enough, you find the old saying to be true... "In order to make a small fortune in the high-end audio business, you must start with a large one." So if you don't have a love for audio, you will not last long in this field.

Happy listening!

OK HERE IS A DIFFERENT IDEA. FOR YOUR SYSTEMS.AS AUDIOPHILES WE ARE AWARE THAT OUR MUSIC IS RECORDED AS A STEREO SIGNAL-LEFT AND RIGHT CHANNELS.MOST OF YOUR BASS AND LOWER FREGUENCY ONE CHANNEL(NOT ALL) MOST OF YOUR HIGH FREQUENCY OTHERSIDE AT LEAST IN THEORY.NOT ALL RECORDINGS ARE GOOD OR EQUAL.I HAVE BOUGHT ONE FOCAL PROFILE908 SPEAKER.PLACED IT ON THE RIGHTCH.I HAVE PUT A VON SCHWEIKERT VR3 ON LEFT CH.THE MUSICAL RESPONSE IS SIMPLY AMAZING.I CANT AFFORD REAL HIGH END EQUIPMENT BUYING IT THE TRADITIONAL WAY A PAIR OF EITHER FOR EX.THIS WAY I HAVE APP.4000.00 WORTH OF SPEAKERS FOR PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR.ANY OPINIONS,

Hello all! New to the neighborhood but not new to ebay!
I kind of see your point 4197michaelm for some of the items being sold at high prices but as you know from growing up in the 70's which was the era that they made quality equipment. I was actually born in 1977 but have a love for 70's equipment and do collect it. It is unfortunate that some of the older equipment I do want is going for a lot which sometimes makes it out of my price range. So I just keep my eyes open and hope to get what I'm looking for at a good price.
So much of the newer equipment now days is junk! Unless you spend some money and sometimes even then some manufactures are still not that great. I believe the real high end equipment like McIntosh and Conrad Johnson to name a couple are great but out of many people's budget. So I guess that kind of brings me back to used equipment which is sometimes the best way to get high end equipment without braking the bank.
I look forward to discussing more audio with anyone. I love audio!
By the way, anyone and everyone can answer this question. What is your favorite part of an audio system??? Mine is the Amplifier!
Thanks

hi and welcome mr love 77.hurrah for your input.i did rant a little hard.basically i was talking about turntables.but i totally agree that we see a lot of things we would like to have only to see the price go balistic.yes patience is rewarded.and i think a lot of the good stuff is snapped up by collecters yes they have as much right as us to buy.this just an observation.i used to sell audio in the 70s.i too love the products of the golden age.and also agree most of the new stuff is junk both build wise and sound.

So 4197michaelm, what kind of equipment do you own these days?
I have an array of items ranging from a few years old to pieces from the 70's.
My absolute favorite piece is the Kenwood KA-9100 amplifier! Quality built! I am looking for another one to add to the collection.
