I have located a butcher album at my local record store. The owner wants 800 dollars. It isn't peeled. It looks good. I need to figure out if it is state 2 or 3. No stains or water marks. My question: eight hundred is alot of money, can anybody give me a guideline on what to look for as far as being a fake or what state it is? This is a dealer that has been here for over twenty five years and I think I trust him. That said....What do you think? Thanks in Advance...Dewie
If it's a second state album, it isn't peeled - it would still have the trunk cover intact and you would be able to see very faintly Ringo's black turtleneck on the right-hand side of the cover (this is a definite MUST for a Butcher Album). A third state is peeled, so it's definitely not a third state. If the cover has a "Gold Record Award" seal it CANNOT be a Butcher. Cover must be "slick" type - cardboard jacket, back slick wraps around to the front of the cover, and the front "slick". Sometimes the trunk slick was pasted on sloppily. If it's a true second state, then $800 is pretty good.....we paid more for a second state. Good luck!!
A second state is one with the trunk cover over the original. A third state is peeled. Obviously a first state is the original. If it is a first state $800 is cheap.
