I HAVE 9 RESCUE PARROTS, A LOT TO KEEP UP WITH! TOYS ARE SO EXPENSIVE BUT MUST HAVES. INDESTRUCTABLE TOYS ARE GREAT BUT THEY MUST HAVE DESTRUCTABLE TOYS TOO.I SUPPLY THEM WITH LOTS OF WOOD TOYS AND MY PARROTS LOVE THE PARROT PINATA'S, THEY COME IN ALL SIZES FROM MINI TO XLARGE AND PROVIDE HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT & DESTRUCTION. BALSA WOOD & WICKER TOYS ALSO. DOCTORS FOSTER & SMITH HAS GREAT SALES ON TOYS AND I USUALLY STOCK UP. ANOTHER THING THEY LOVE, SOMETHING WE ALL HAVE, IS PAPER TOWEL & TOILET PAPER ROLLS. I CUT THEM DOWN THE SIDE (SO THEY CAN'T GET THEIR HEAD STUCK IN THEM) THEY SPEND HOURS RIPPING THEM UP. ANY OLD PAPER BACK BOOKS WITH MISSING PAGES AND READY FOR THE DUMP? MINE LOVE THEM! HOURS OF SHREDDING FUN! IF ANYONE HAS THINGS THEIR BIRDS LOVE PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW & SAFE IDEAS TO KEEP MY FEATHERED FRIENDS BUSY!
MY FAVORITE CAGES?
KINGS CAGES. ALL OF MY BIRDS HAVE THEM (EXCEPT FOR MY LITTLE BLUE QUAKER WITH NO FEET) AND THEY ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY! ALWAYS BUY THE BIGGEST CAGE YOU CAN AFFORD AND ACCOMMODATE FOR YOUR BELOVED BIRDS. THEY ALL HAVE PLAY GYMS OUTSIDE OF THEIR CAGES ALSO.

Hello, I loved your article! I have a male Cockatoo for 15 years and he is a handful. I can't imagine having 9!! I have to keep him entertained constantly. He doesn't play with toys but he likes more creative things. He is very intelligent and he knows what he is talking about, every word!! Some of his favorite toys are a keyring full of keys which keeps him busy for about 1 minute and his favorite is a children"s music toy. The kind of toy that has a little piano or the buttons you press that say words. letters or songs. He has 5 of them and they are his favorite toys. My sister was throwing them out when her baby outgrew them. It is also the only thing he doesn't destroy because he likes the music better!! I also see you are from Washington! My favorite state!! I love it there and am looking to move out there soon. My Bird will need some new friends as well as me. I love the people in WA!! Thanks

Hi. Thanks for the tips! I have heard that the glue on tp and pt rolls can be toxic so you may want to cut the glue strips out. What kind of parrots do you have? My email is coolbirdtoys@yahoo.com. Tammy

Hi Everyone
I am new here. I own two natural coloured cockatiels.
My kids love to strip bark off branches, mainly gum varieties. As for toys one doesn't play with anything but the other loves his bells.
I have heard that chewing paper isn't good for birds. That is why I give small branches.

We have an african grey. To keep on top of the wood toys she turns into toothpicks, we get a 4 x 4, cut into 2 in chunks, drill a hole in the middle, then soak in kool aid and water to dye them. It is much less expensive than bird wooden toys. Jan

I have a Pionus Maximillian Parrot aka "scaly-headed" parrot and a Goffin's Cockatoo. The pionus is a perch potato. She's about 5 but the Goffin's is less than a year old. A bag of scrap leather pieces from hobby lobby is a great fun inexpensive toy that keeps on giving. I like to tie knots and knots and knots and tie them to the cage. My cockatoo loves to untie them. I also have a baby and use his diaper boxes to make "houses" out of. I cut a door and tie it to the cage and sit it on top of crossed branches for stability. I put peanuts inside a hollowed out coconut inside for a fun treat. Oh and they love their rope toys and wooden swing! I have an herb garden that is really for the birds. They love eating fresh herbs!

Hi everyone. I have a 13yr old blue and gold macaw who is very playful. His names Blue and he knows that I'm his mommy even tho I've only had him for a little over a year. I buy him toys, give him all his needs and love him to death. However, I feel bad leaving him home all day long while Im working a 9-5 shift. I used to leave cartoons on the tv for him until i get home from work. Then I bought a little cockatiel as a "playmate" for him but he's to jealous to have another bird in the house. However I couldnt sell the little bird so they're currently still both in the living room. But now I dont know what to do. I feel like I dont spend enough time with the birds even tho Im just at work. But I feel like I should be spending more time with them. How should I go about the situation because I know I cant buy their love?

Hello, my Grey, Zazoo, loves my old socks. When I get a pair of socks that are ready for the trash, I tie them to the bars in her cage. Sometimes I use them to string up wood beads.

To 570_sacco,
I heard of someone with a similar problem. The best advice that came to them is to just include them in your day to day tasks. For example, when you get home greet them both. Then when you go to make dinner grab them put them on a perch in the kitchen and interact with them. Give them a bite of what your cooking talk to them. They will love it.
