I'm surprised no one has joined this neighborhood yet but hopefully that'll change. I've had birds all my life (budgies when I was a school-aged child living at home) and now I have 34 birds ... mostly cockatiels, three Greys, rosellas, ringneck doves, and two budgies recently adopted from a local shelter.
I'd love to have intelligent conversations about behavior and diet. Join me?
Hello, I am the proud owner? of 10 hand tamed, hand fed (by me) lovebirds, of all colors and all different personalities, they are my best friends and i love them with all my heart. they have a whole room dedicated just for them, they are free flighted, and know at bedtime to go to their cages for the night for bed. There are a couple that like to think they are going to sleep in my shirt for the night...LOL! so much fun, i wouldnt have it any other way! I live in northern NH, but my birds do get out whenever they want to in the summer, i have an outdoor aviary attached to a window, and they love it. nice to see so many dedicated bird owners....
Hello everyone! I have been reading about everyone's bird(s). They sound wonderful! I am momma to a female Solomon Island Eclectus and a male Senegal Parrot. They are as different as night and day! The eclectus' colors are striking. She is moody, cranky, does not like to be handled other than to be on my shoulder, and is afraid of everything. She has a small vocabulary and rarely talks when she is awake, but will talk constantly in her sleep! When she cannot see me, she will "doodle doodle doo" (sounds like the old time phone ring!) The senegal has quite the personality! He is so funny, curious, chirpy, loves to be handled, chews on everything, and LOVES the women--hates the men! Have had her about 7 yrs, and he 3 yrs.
I am owned by 6 birds. A blue and gold macaw named Zaba...He was a rescue. A catalina macaw named Keila...handfed by me since birth. A male eclectus named Paco...he was 1 year when I got him. A female eclectus named Bella...no one wanted her...so she is mine. A blue crowned conure named Peppa...she is my rappin bird, literally, and finally a hahn's macaw named George...he is Peppa's back up rapper. I have only had birds for about 5 years now. I can't imagine life without them. I even take them to my camp, it has a huge screened in porch. They love it there. I also have a welsh corgy named charlie, and a kitty named morris (he loves the birds, he actually plays with them. I am also glad that there are so many bird lovers out there. They are like tatoos...you can't have just one!!
Ok. Haven't seen any birds like I have! I have 10 geese and 30 ducks. Course my birds all live outside, but in all fairness I built them a very nice pond and they in return lay eggs for me! I practice the retro active birth control with my flock. It is called making noodles! Noodles are a lot easier to control than the baby ducklings and goslings. I do however not have a 100% sucess rate on the birth control business since they always manage to slip a few past me, but that keeps the flock young. I have 4 African Greys, 3 Emidens, and 3 Chinese geese. The ducks are a little harder to tell the breed since they are nondiscriminatory in their breeding habits. I have 2 Runners (which walk upright like a person) 2 Kahkis, 6 Mallards, 7 black and white ones, and the rest are a mixture. I live on an acre of ground in the county, so I have room for these guys. They have the run of the back half and there is no such thing on my property as a grasshopper. I must confess that it is a myth that geese eat stickers. Seems like that is the only thing they DO NOT eat. I sell bird seed catchers in my store. My last domestic bird was a blue Indian Ring Neck Parrot. He was beautiful, but died of lead poisoning, because he ate his baskets. I miss him!
Hi! I have had several birds. First was Perry, a parakeet that was given to us when I was a little girl. He passed away, and I never really got close to him, even though he left a lasting impression. As an adult, I adopted a cockatiel from a friend who couldn't keep him any longer. My son adopted him from me. He was a neat bird, and my son just loved him... gave him a lot of freedom. I was a little skeptical about him. A few years ago, I was soo happy when my daughter and her husband bought an orange-winged Amazon parrot. History told me that I would own Stanley within 6 months to a year! I saw him everyday just about and taught him a few words, etc. You guessed it, I had him before he was a year old! He is my baby! He says I love you! I say give me a kiss and he makes kissing noises. He also says gimme a kiss. He has more in his vocabulary too. Those are my favorites of course. He learned come here... when I am ready to put him in his cage, he says come here and starts backing up and he also says come here. I love him dearly and as a lifetime commitment, it is a bit much at 59 years old, but he is so much fun and such wonderful company. The only time he is irritating is when he squaks! But, all I have to do is pay attention to him and talk to him, and he stops and starts our long conversations. Guess he picked that up pretty quick! Has me trained I suppose. I consider finding him a friend, but don't know how that would work out for him... and at my age, that is another lifetime commitment to worry about. So it will probably always just be me and Stanley. He is such fun and as I said, good company! I live alone and it makes all the difference in the world.
Hello Bird Neighborhood from Arizona! I have over two dozen cockatiel birds and I'm new to neighborhoods. I started out with 10 that used to belong to my grandfather, then the number started growing as some are rescued, some were given to me by owners who could no longer care for them. Ilove them all!
Hello - we have 12 cockatiels, an african grey and a black capped lory. I'm a member of 1 of our areas bird clubs. Most of our birds are rescue birds. I look forward to talking to some of you soon.
Hi, My name is Erika and I live in Texas. I am mom to 4 parrots. I have an African Grey Congo, A Male Eclectus, Dyh Amazon and a Nanday Conure. They were all grown when I got them. My eclectus came from a good loving home but the other 3 were rescues taken out of very bad situations. I love them all but my grey was my first and must confess my personal favorite. I have a special bond with him.
Hello All, I am Wyspur and I have a sanctuary for small birds with special needs. I currently have 22 birds,11 budgies, 8 tiels, one Bourkes hen and two caiques who I absolutly adore. I love to design and make toys for my parrots to test for me or just destroy. I also LOVE to spoil my babies every chance I get which is easy to do in the frigid winters of Minnesota.
Hello, I'm the owner of 2 Feathered Friends. The first is a cocktel named, Buddy. I adopted him from a person who loved him very much, but could not keep him any longer. The other is an african grey congo named, Zazoo. I adopted her from a person who could not keep her any longer either. Both are wounderful birds full of personality, but neither have been handled much if at all, and it has been quite the struggle to tame them. I would love to discuss tips and tricks on how to tame them and help them become more of the family.
