I'm glad I found this neighborhood. I used to compete in BMX when I was 12-13 years old, some 20 years ago, with a Kuwahara Nova (I was surprised to find out the company still exists!). I used to read BMX Plus religiously.
I'd like to get a bike again and start riding, maybe even racing if I can find any tracks that allow "seniors" to race. I'm not interested in a Freestyle bike. I want a track bike.
So, my question is . . . what's changed in the last 20 years? What are the new big dogs in BMX bikes? In my day you were "the man" if you had a Hutch. Now I understand they don't even exist anymore.
Sorry this is such a nebulous question. I'm just looking to buy a bike and though some old school 80's bikes from my generation are still out there and very tempting, are the new bikes that much better?
Hi, my son races bmx now and has for some 10 years. Alot has changed with whats "in" and it is totally up to the individual on what they ride. I would suggest going onto vintagebmx.com to check out what all the older guys are riding. Right now the Hyper frame is hot, Redline always has new stuff coming out-check out their website too! Hope that helps...
you'd be surprised how many of the old pro's are still in the sport. Greg Hill, Eric Rupe, Harry Leary to name a few. The new companys with very good bikes are GHP, Intense, Redman, Redline, Formula, and quite a few others. There's plenty of senior classes at your local track. You can check ababmx (dot)com or NBL (dot) org to find local tracks.
