I've spent hours on end on many different sites where you can buy Sox tickets. I found a couple of ways to get better prices on your seats:

First, StubHub is a good site (sorry eBay). Use their interactive seating chart and it shows you how many seats are available in each section and the price range for those seats.

Next: It's far cheaper to buy 2 seats together than to buy say 4 or 5 together. Check each section carefully ... you'll likely find 4 seats NEAR each other -- maybe even 2 different rows but right in front or back of your friend's seats.

IMPORTANT: Wait until as close to game time as possible. The closer the date is to the game you want to attend ... the cheaper.

Stub Hub does not tell buyers this (but they do tell sellers) that if they are willing to sell at a big discount, they may sell tickets up to the day before the game.

I'm going to a game with my Dad, 2 kids, and husband in June, too. Right now, if I were to buy 5 seats together in the infield grandstand section, the cost around $200.00 per seat. Then I looked at how much seats were going for at the next homestand (vs Toronto Blue Jays) and those same infield grandstand seats 2 together in 1 row and 3 together directly behind us ... $75.00 each. About as close to face value as you can get!!

While I agree with some points made in this post let me give people a slightly better idea of the truth. First of all while Stubhub is easier to navigate then ebay it is very rarely cheaper. Sellers on ebay get charged 5-8% of the final value where as Stubhub charges us 15%. Most sellers list their seats in BOTH websites by first figuring out a price they want THEN marking them up 5-10% on ebay and 15% on Stubhub.
Second, while waiting until last minute is a very good idea for April and May games since if the weather is cold or rainy you will get seats for face value, waiting until last minute for games in July - Aug can get you shut out of a game. Yes if you want 2 tickets to any game and are willing to sit in ANY part of the field, waiting until last minute will save you money 90% of the time. However if you actually want good seats for a summer game and you especially want more then 2 seats together it is a bad idea to wait till last minute as the inventory will usually be in pairs for good seats and 3+ will mainly be outfield seating.
