Ok so I am on the verge of purchasing a new HD camera but seem to be questioning whether there is something better. I am currently looking at the Cannon HV20. Everything on this camera sounds great but the only problem is that it runs on Mini DV tape. I rather be able to transer HD video through a hard drive on the camera or something. Ok so if you know of a great camera like this Canon HV20 with good looking HD video but used a Hard Drive or card, please let me know!
I just ordered this exact camera today. (will arive in aprox 3-5 days.. yeah right). Anyway... consumer reports gave it a great rating, and camcorderinfo.com had it as the camcorder of the year.
Sure, it uses the miniDV tapes but 1) THey are in a format that allows you to copy onto your hard drive and really edit it however you want. DVD recorders don't allow you to do that. 2) The hard drive ones use a different format as well, of a lower quality (but still good). You also can't put in a new tape if it fills up. SO if you are planning on going on a long trip, you might need to take a laptop with you to download your videos and free up space.
As I stated on the other preson's question, I would look at consumer reports and at www.camcorderinfo.com Both will give you plenty of information about formats, data, etc. camcorderinfo will probably give you a lot more information then you wanted, but that isn't a bad thing!
