Hey everyone! What was your worst camping experience? Mine was about 10 years ago, we were camping near a creek miles down from a dam. It had been raining fiercely for days and without notifying the campers they let water out of the dam. It seemed like only minutes that the creek over flowed into the campground, we lost all of our equipment and even our mini van! Some came close to loosing their lives as well and were pulled out using ropes to hold onto. It was definetly an experience I will never forget, but it hasn't stopped me from camping!!

My husband and I had been to Carlsbad Caverns on our motocycle. We were headed back to Kansas and decided to stay at a campground in the mountains of Colorado.Others were camping there also.We had a little pup tent to sleep in and a folding hatchett to cut wood with.It was getting dark and we were tired,so crawled into our tent.We awoke to people hollering and pans banging. We couldn't understand what they were hollering about and my husband didn't see anything outside with his flashlight,so we tried to go back to sleep. Then we heard something walking around our tent and breathing heavily. My husband waited til it had moved away from the tent, unzipped the door and shone the flashlight outside. There beside our motorcycle was a bear-standing up with his front paws on the seat.My husband hollered, flashing the light at it and waving his folded up hatchett at it.It went away-or so we thought.Again we heard heavy breathing, this time from behind a tree by the motorcycle. That was enough for me.I hollered, started throwing rocks, limbs anything I could find.Told my husband to load up whatever he wanted, as I was leaving. The bear had ran off aways and we made it back home that morning.I wouldn't let him stop for nothing except gas and potty break til we hit the Kansas line.I still camp but I have a big hatchett now, lol.

Hi all,
Mine was a real long time ago when my brother, his wife and I went on a canoe trip for a week in the Adirondacks Mountains in New York State. It was like a nightmare. When we first got there it was raining a little so we stopped in a local pub and played a little pool and watched the news to see what the weather was going to be like. They said that the storm was going to be gone by that night so we headed on to the landing were we put in at and spent the night. The next morning it was beautiful out and we set a sail. The first day we got to the Secound Lake of three. But the next day let me tell you, we got out on the water and it was like the flood gates had opened up and from that day on it rained every time we hit the water. It got so bad one day that we had all we could to cross the lake between the rain and the wind it was like the boat had a mind of its own. Not to mention that with all the gear and a boat half full of water from all the rain. Stuck almost in the middle of the lake my brother and I decided that I should get in his boat (which was fun) and we should toe mine with his while we both paddle because we were afraid that we would capsize if we didn't get to shore fast and sure enough it was close. But the worst part of the trip was that it was one of thoughts cold acid rains that burned your eyes and throat and makes you feel like crap. But like true campers we toughed it out and made the best of it. We think back on it now and laugh on how messed up it was. My wife and I have had some other ruff times but I thing that was about the worst for me being on my own.

When I was a kid we went camping and it rained. ( El Nino rains) It rained for the first 5 days of our trip, but dad was determined that we would go camping. We were the only ones left in the campground the tent was soaked and drippy so we sat in the station wagon....all six of us and had nothign to eat but homegrown tomatoes from the neighbor's garden. On the sixth day, my dad finally gave up. I didnt eat tomatoes after that until I was in my twenties.

My worst camping experience was on our honeymoon. We had been to a Bluegrass Festival in Palatka, Fl and since I had never seen a manatee my husband was gonna take to Manatee Springs. When we got to the road going into the park we realized we didn't have much cash on us so we stopped at a convenient bank at a ATM. (This being on a Sunday) There wasn't much place to turn around a truck pulling a house so he pulled up to the outside overhand and I was outside and watching to tell him if he had head clearance to go under it, Welllll the front part had plently of room but I wasn't looking at the back where the air conditioner was so I waved him on throught, then we both heard a LOUD crunch. I could see him trying to control his temper (considering it was our honeymoon) and I just sat down and started crying.) To make a long story short rain was moving in and we had to go to Wally world and buy a ladder and plastic and tape to cover to hole up and put what was left of the air conditioner in the truck. (Went to Manatee Springs and didn't see not ONE manatee) We went on down the road and camped for the night and had to go back to the bank the next day and confess up to what we had done, Well , since we were at the ATM they did have up on video. (Just Kidding) Went back and left all our insurance information etc. We always have a good laught about it now. but it wasn't funny then. Jan West
