TX flash inquiry

Can anyone verify that the Speedlite 155A will operate properly with the
TX? My concern is whether the 2 outer contacts will cause a problem, as
they appear to contact the grounded portion of the hot shoe. Any help will
be appreciated. I don't want to spoil the camera or the flash.

The Canon TX is an older mechanical camera. Other than the meter circuit (which has nothing to do with the flash), there are no sophisticated electronics that you risk frying with the flash. The TX has both a hotshoe and a PC socket; you can use either one. The hotshoe makes contact with the flash through the center contact in the shoe, and the body of the shoe. If by "2 outer contacts" you are referring to contacts in the grooves of the flash's mounting foot, the hotshoe must contact at least one of them (contacting both is ok).
Two contacts are required for the hotshoe to work: the center contact and the ("grounded") body of the shoe itself.
Please note that when using flash, you must use either the "X" shutter speed, or 1/30 second or slower. The TX (like many, many 35mm SLR's) has a focal plane shutter, and requires a slow shutter speed for the flash to properly expose the film.
Short answer-- no problem, fire away!

Hi I guess I'm late to the party on this but maybe it will help someone else. The Canon TX is an old manual camera with a single contact hot shoe The 155a flash is a dedicated flash that came out with the AE-1 if you use them together you risk frying the flash not the camera. the dedicated contacts [the 2 little ones behind the center contact] can ground on the hot shoe. I hope this helps. Gooch2153
