Our "stock" (ie boxes of stuff we have been carrying around for years or have been donated to us to sell) is usually arranged by boxes. Then when someone buys and pays, it goes into another box for shipping.

Well one small item in the second box was wrapped like a ball and our cat got a hold of it and it went MIA! This has never happened before! We looked for about 2 hours total, but no.

I felt really bad for the buyer who just shamed me in an email. I'm sure it will turn up "someday" all dusty and such.

I know now that we need to be more careful. Just wondering if anyone else has any similar kitty/ebay tales of woe??

Oh yes, I've learned, know ALL about that. Everything now goes in big plastic boxes with TIGHT fitting lids! (LOL)

I recently had one of my precious little angels poke a hole in a pair of my designer jeans...there goes $50! I usually don't let them in my office, they must have snuck in while I wasn't looking...

We're still trying to figure out where one of our two furry kids hid a baseball-sized plastic Christmas tree ornament. Believe me we have looked everywhere. Fortunately, there wasn't a hook on it.

hey

I JUST CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY SOME1 WOULD COMPLAIN AFTER U XPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED . I AM NOT A SELLER (YET) MY SIS WAS SUPPOSED 2 HELP ME BUT SHE MOVED AS SHE + FIANCE BOUGHT SMALL FARM 2GETHER .

BUT THESE MISTAKES HAPPEN , WE HAVE GOTTEN THE WRONG ITEMS IN THE MAIL OR WERE SENT SOMEONE ELSE'S ORDER WHICH WE JUST ASK AND RE-PACKAGE IT AND EITHER MAIL IT BACK TO THE SELLER OR FORWARD IT ON IF THEY ASK US TO .

EVEN CATALOGUE STORES MAKE ERRORS AND SOMETIMES BREAKAGE OR POOR QUALITY ITEMS (WE ORDER SHEERS FROM JCP RECENTLY + ONE OF THE PANELS THE HEADER WAS SEWN WAY 2 SMALL .

ONCE MY MOM ORDERED/WON 2 TELEFLORA ROSE CUPS/SAUCER + THEY ARRIVED IN BROKEN SMALL PIECES . THE SELLER WAS FAIRLY NEW + SEEMED A GENUINELY NICE HONEST PERSON , SO MY MOM DID NOT HURT HER FEELINGS TELLING HER IT ARRIVED IN SMALL PIECES AS IT WAS PACKAGED FAIRLY WELL , BUT WAS AROUND THE HOLIDAYS SO POSSIBLY SUBJECTED 2 HIGH TRAUMA TIME OF YEAR . MY MOM LEFT HER A gr8 HONEST FB WITHOUT MENTIONING THE BREAKAGE .

TRUELY IT HAS 2 BE PRETTY BAD B4 WE COMPLAIN ABOUT AN ITEM , ONCE WE LEFT A POSITIVE FOR A RATHER EXPEN$IVE VHS OOP RARE FILM THAT NEVER GOT HERE . SELLER SAID HE HAD TRACKING NUMBER WHICH WE HAD PAID FOR BUT SOMEHOW NEVER FOUND THAT NUMBER , BUT WE NEEDED A SPACE ONE DAY 2 WISH A HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY SO HE GOT A POSITIVE + WE DIDN'T REALLY UNDERSTAND WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN OUR 5O BUX BACK THRU PAYPAL . . . WE USUALLY DON'T GET ANY XTRA INSURANCE BUT 4 OTHER ITEMS , TRACKING IS ALWAYS GOOD .

I really can't say that I have, but I can certainly tell you I would not have given you such a hard time about it. It's called being human. If your buyer can't understand that, I would just block them from future listings. I did sell a lil $3 scarf 4 months ago, that was sell price and S&H, was really honest in the description. Sat in storage, leaving washing to buyer, I even circled the snag in the darn thing which was hard to focus, but I got it! The buyer receives the scarf, and proceeds to reprimand me for the condition, and tries to tell me she will have to pay $12 for dry cleaning. I really couldn't believe it, and it really was not bad. She paid .50 for it. All it needed was a wash and air dry. I refunded her money and told her a return was unnecessary; after all, it was 3 bucks. I did, however, block her from future listings. As much as we don't like to admit, some people just choose to be difficult. The woman had cursed me completely in her e-mail, and it was totally & completely inappropriate. By refunding her money and replying with a less offending response, there really wasn't any more e-yelling she could do. Sometimes things are beyond our individual control. You didn't realize that your cat would be so crafty, so ya live ya learn. I really think it's awful that your buyer would try to shame you like that for an honest mistake. It really sounds to me like they're trying to bully you into giving them something else. Send a refund, block the buyer, and let it go. You sound as if you are a very honest person. After all, you could have just as easily been totally dishonest and told them it was in the mail, but you didn't. I personally believe that is a super positive on your side. After dealing with sellers (great and not so great), I think you're doin just fine! :-D Sorry for being so long winded, but people like that in general just really put my knickers in a twist! lol :-D

Don't feel bad. It happens somehow or another to those of us whom own pets. I keep all of my items locked up in the office, in boxes. But since I am only human, and I am a very loving mommy to my pets, sometimes I forget that I might have some pet hair that is attached itself to my clothing. This in turn could accidently make its way onto my item while being packaged for shipping. And I have had the dogs sneak in behind me and snoop through boxes. It has happened only a few times and made me deal with a few not so happy buyers. Now I make sure to lint roll my clothing before packing/shipping and double checking items before packing.

My cats love to sleep in my photo tent, without fail I get everything set up to do pictures I turn my back and along comes a kitty, usually with kitty litter stuck to there feet or they are muddy from trying to fish in the pond, and up they jump on to my nice and clean white background cloth.
As we expecting some kittens any day now I packed it all away today.
They also like to sleep on top of my cabs, one of them jumped up when I was gluing bails on and I went nuts trying to find the bail that I had just put glue on. I found it later when the cat came for a cuddle and I had to cut if out of her fur!!!!!!

Yours cats are a problem? Try a Rottweiller Puppy. We package our items for shipping while we are in the listing procedure which gives us accurate information to plug into the ebay calculator. Then the Priority box or esnvoloe or whatever, marked with a tag, is put on a shelf. Creates less chance of damage or loss.

I have had my bad boy tomcat climb into a box of ebay books and wet on them. That ruined the lot for selling! Now I place all my eBay items in closed boxes up high on a shelf. When I lose something, I know I am the culprit (and yes, I have done that too)! Luckily, I have had very understanding buyers for the most part. Don't let someone with a nasty attitude spoil youir day!

I accidentally sent the wrong item once, but I was lucky they were very understanding. I keep all of my ebay stuff in my walk in closet and when I mail clothing, I put a dryer sheet in there, because some people don't have pets and are very aware of sellers that do. I also include a note that says we own pets, the clothes have been washed and dried, but it is recommended that before use you wash and dry the clothes again. Never had any complaints.

Hi valence17,
I think any seller who works out of the home and has pests of the feline purr-swasion has or will have this happen some time. Actually I encourage it on my end. ;) I only sell cat products I personally have inspected, like and trust and at least 50% of my cats must like the toy. Then I only sell them as long as they are used at my home with our cats. So on the rare occasions when they get into product and steal it, I let them keep it. In fact I generally run for my camera to get more action shots of our cats playing with what I sell.

My stock storage and packing location is in our shop (a 24 x 46 room off the garage) and Nova is allowed to come with me if I am in the mood. If he takes an item while I pack it OR really interferes with the processing of an order, this means that he wants me to put in a special gift for the buyer. I then take him to a special area where I keep “prizes” and let him go. The first item he goes for or investigates is what I give the buyer. Most are worth less than the product ordered, but there are a few items worth more. In fact I once had someone buy about $9 of toys and get a free Drinkwell fountain!

*Sweet*molly*malone*,
You should see what kind of buyers exist out there! I sell a LOT on another site (full merchant on AM**N) and between there and eBay I sometimes have over 70 orders a night (try dealing with that while working full time and doing side consulting, it is really hard). It really never ceases to stun me how rude or (dare I say) dumb a buyer can be. Things like someone buys a product listed saying “Red 36 inch pole…” and yet I get emails asking “How long is the pole” or “what color is the pole” or “can I have the pole in blue and only 32 inches?” And the rudeness of people is just unreal. Some of the worst I get are when a person pays the they have an old shipping address in the system. I ship to the address they gave and they pitch a fit that it went to the wrong place. The insist they did not give an old address and it is somehow mu fault, yet they admit that was where they lived 2 years ago. I have had people order a hand made item and a year later bought a second to make a book end and then leave me bad feedback because 2 hand made items purchased 14 months apart do not have a 100% color and texture match. Some of the best ones were people who got one of the free prize items and they did not like it and left bad feedback on me! One got a $29 cat bed free (he ordered something like a box of toy mice for $10) and sent me a nasty email because they did not like blue and flower patterns on it and they insist their cat hates blue! That person actually wanted to return it for a REFUND and we went into PayPal dispute on it! Oh I can go on and on…. But I shall dismount from my high horse for now.

Ksjlsjb: I have sent the wrong items myself. If the items don’t cost me more than $10 I just ask them to please donate it to the local no-kill shelter and then I send them the new one. One buyer actually sent me a receipt for the shelter donation! That was so nice.

Sincerely,

David and the CoolCyberCats

It happened with a baby toy with balls in it. My cat has never touched anything but a ball is missing now and 3 months later still missing. But my real nightmare is going on now. Sold a jogging stroller to a lady shipped it was perfect but now she says it has a tear and wheel is bend. ask if damage to the box and she says No but wont return but want a full refund of price and s/h. Will only return if I pay her return s/h too. So the top line is she will give negative feedback unless I give her all her money back. Love this new feedback policy. :(

m-lconnolly,
Sorry about the current issue you are having. Did you offer to insure the package? Did the buyer accept it? Actually in the end that matters so little since if they go to PayPal and complain and want a refund they get it even if you offered the insurance (don't ya love eBay? They encourage you to offer it, then screw you if you do).

On expensive sales I require insurance, AND I prep the postage label in advance, then I use my video camera to shoot a quick video of the item (for condition), me packing it and then boxing it, putting the postage label on and I will also mark the box so it can be identified as the one in the video. I have been considering using a tape that breaks if you lift it as well. Lucky I have had no issues with these orders to date, and orders over a few hundred for me are very rare (just a few a year).

Good luck with the customer.
