Does it cost alot to find out? What if kidneys stop working right how would you know? My cat has lost so much weight and is skin and bones just in a few days. she eats ok drink ok she is 13 years old indoors cat sleeps with me. I love her so much. I'm looking for help cause my husband won't let me take her to vet as cost too much and he feels she is old and they would just tell me she has cancer and put her to sleep. I can't do that . I had 2 other cats 18 and 16 years old I loved them very much and miss them alot. I'm looking for any help I can get to care for her I also feel it could be stress. The only way to know, is to see a vet. You can discuss your budget, what tests need to be done, and what it costs to do them with the vet. Then come up with a plan that works for you. Not seeing a vet with the symptoms you describe is neglect. If you can not afford to care for her properly, then she needs to be surrendered to the animal shelter. You can also ask them if they have a vet that may be willing to see her? Loving a pet means doing what is in their best interest. If she has diabetes, kidney failure, or cancer that goes untreated she will die. Once you know what you are dealing with, then you and your vet can decide on the best course of treatment for her, within your budget. Perhaps they will work out a trade for services with you.
You can also call vets and look for options. Country vets are cheaper than city vets, 24 hour Animal hospitals will cost the most. Cost will vary, based on where you live. You will start with a basic office visit, some bloodwork, and maybe an x-ray. That shouldn't be that much. This cat needs to be seen by a vet right away.
Tell your husband that you are NOT going to be a party, to animal abuse and neglect.

My daughter has a diabetic cat, and Lexus was not using her litter box. She would wet all over the house, and literally scream for water. She is now on insulin shots twice a day, but the company is going to quit making the special insulin within the next 9 months, so we don't know what will happen to her after that. She is 12 years old.
Please take your cat to a vet. It's the only humane thing to do. If the cat requires extensive care and the doctor thinks the cat has a good chance of survival, they might work out a payment plan with you. You should usually ask up front, before the cat is seen by the vet, but if you express to them how sick the animal is, they should work with you on cost. Good luck, let me know what happens.
My cat was diagnosed with diabetes. I knew before the vet told me because she began drinking constantly but urination didn't really increase very much. she started the insulin shots but got a blood clot to the lung and we had to put her to sleep because it was inoperable. The cost for finding out she was diabetic was so expensive and the insulin with needles was $186. It was going to cost about $9 a day to take care of her. I would have done it and was lucky to be able to afford it. She was my world and was 13 also. Two weeks later my other cat died at 17. I sometimes wonder if I will ever get over it. I took Angel To the vet and found she had cancer and there was nothing I could do , He told me to take her home and let her live her last days with me. I couldn't put her to sleep maybe selfish but I believe in prayer. My mom almost died after being so sick for 7mos in the hosptial 5 surgeries and heart attact the Drs.told us she was going to die and say all we wanted to as she was going to die. I prayed and God answered . The Drs. say it was Moms faith and ours plus God. She is with us still and can do as always . Faith is a strong thing you know. Now it's hard for me because Angel is gone . I loved her so much . she was so special to me. I save her A lady was going to take her to the pound and I took her home. I had 2 other cats Misty who I had to feed from a bottle as her mom died before she was able to eat on her own she died at 18 yrs, Teddy who was her baby he was16 when he died. He was so good . Never scratched or hurt ya he was a lover. He was a teddy bear . soft and cuddly . Each had a special way of loving. the best ever no kitty like them. I'm having troubles The hurt is so hard. I sleep in livingroom because I can't sleep without my Angel . she had her own cup of water next to mine as she would get mine at night. she slepted with me and loved on me alot.I miss her lots. I can't stop crying as she was so special to me I know she's with Jesus and Misty, Teddy. My husband works nights if you wonder about him. I just miss them all so much. The other cats are my daughters and they aren't cuddle cats. She saved them to they are mean . Althought we have them calm down now they aren't cuddle cats you can't hold . This has been so hard. People say get another and it helps the pain . I don't think I can do that yet or ever. I'm not sure I can love another cause I'm hurting too much and no cat is like my Angel.Does this hurt stop and is my feeling normal? I cry alot at night with no one around as I just can't stop the hurt I feel empty inside .I know I did all I could as the vet reassured me of this but doesn't make it any easier.
