Would it be better to look in the newspaper or go to a shelter? Here in Milwaukee they want way too much for a stray cat. Any suggestions?

Are you looking for YOUR cat or you found one?

Why do you have to do one OR the other?

If looking, place an ad, contact all the shelters in a 10 mile area dn check with animal control. Also notify all the local vets and supply them with an image if you can.

Coolcybercats is correct about the ad, and checking with the shelters and vets but also you can tell your friends to keep on the lookout for you. We adopted three cats that way. They were already fixed, had shots and are great cats. One is a Maine Coon cat, one is a Red Point Siamese mix and the other is a long haired white cat. They did not cost us anything, but their owners were looking for homes for them, and friends directed them our way. One was given up due to a family members allergies, and the other two after a baby arrived.

Hello again, I was very tired last night when I put in my post on this discussion. Are you looking to adopt or did you lose a couple of cats?

If you are looking to adopt, animal shelters have been getting many purebred cats and dogs from people, who due to this economy have to move and cannot take their pets. If they do have a fee, it is still usually less than the cost of buying one from a breeder or pet store, then going to the vet to have them fixed and given shots.

You can also look on Petfinder with your computer, they have animals (most with pictures) for adoption listed by city and state, they also have a section that you can list a lost pet. ( You can find Petfinder with Google or any search engine. )

Probably the classified ads - there are always ads for free kitties or kitties for $5 or $10. We have local online classified ads sponsored by one of our local television/radio stations. I actually just got my newest this way because when I visited the Humane Society to try to adopt, the people were extremely rude & their shelter was filthy (the litterboxes smelled like they hadn't been changed for a month), so I figured the animals would probably be sick & I'd be incurring veterinarian bills right off the bat.

Hello, Stud! Welcome to eBay and the Neighborhood! Our Sunday newspaper and newletter from the Creidt union always have listings for cats and kittens for Free. That is a good way to get a pair of litter-mates who are already buddies.
Some places even have Free Spay & Neuter Day if you will check with the local shelter or Humane Society. Good Luck!

You probably won't like my answer, but you did ask for suggestions. My suggestion is neither. I feel if you can't afford to buy a stray cat in Milwaukie, you definately cannot afford the upkeep and food and veterinary bills for the life of the cat.
Just my opinion.

I checked online with Milwaukee shelters and the cost of a cat or kitten with a vet check, all vaccinations and spay/neuter is only $50.00. You can see all the available cats/kittens on Kijiji and put in Milwaukee. $50.00 is very reasonable considering the cat has been spayed/neutered and had all the vaccinations. If you still cannot afford that, please do not get a cat. Despite what people say...there are NO FREE cats!
Meow,
Linda
