I have heard of cats living upwards of 20 years. My old cat lived until 18 years. If they are healthy and get into no accidents or injuries, they can live a long long time

I've had one cat live to be 22 years old - she always lived indoors and was seriously pampered! By the end of her life - she was deaf, nearly blind, had a hard time finding her litter box, and was on daily medication for kidney problems. She had lost many of her teeth and had problems eating most types of food. She still had a routine where she greeted us each morning, and had certain things she liked to do each day. She died in a favorite sunny spot in our dining room.

The average life span of a cat used to be 7-10 years, with better nutrition and medical care, it has become 7-15 years. Yes you hear of cats living up to 20 years, but it is rare. Don't feel bad about your cat only living to 11 it is within the normal lifespan for a cat. I'm sorry for your loss.

We had one cat that lived to be 19 (he died of a stroke) , one that lived to be 18 (he died of kidney failure), and we just lost my baby Bootsie 2 years ago at age 14 (which I thought was young). We also had a neighbor whose cat passed away at age 25. So it just depends on if they get cancer or whatever disease. But indoor cats are know to live longer. It's the hardest thing to lose your cat, they are like your child. So innocent and lovable.
Hello kaz-chan333, I am sorry for your loss. Losing a cat, any pet, can be quite hard. 11 is considered senior in most circles, but I consider it before her expected time. I had my first cat loss in May 2004, and it was very hard on me. It was compounded by my 2nd cat loss 15 days later and my 3 cat loss 2 days after that. By the end of the month I was a basket case. ^Itchy^, the first to go was only about 7 years old. ^Copycat^, the second to go was less than 2 years old and ^Electra^ was about 14. In September 2005 I lost my first cat, ^Hamlet^ who was 13. I have been wearing ^Hamlet^s collar on my wrist since. I guess you never really get over them, just open your heart to others. On average I would say the average life span of a cat who is not suffering from something, should be 17 to 20 years. Of course there are many exceptions. My sister’s cat ^Pumpkin^ lived to a ripe old age of 23. I believe the longest lived cat was 40 something, but that is very very rare. We have 6 cats now and each is just wonderful. I like to adopt special needs cats and ones who need help, so often my hands are very full trying to care for each, but in the end it is worth it for me. We only have this cat (Misi), but during we have her we also have other cats not for us. We have a couple of brothers, girl and boy, we have in our house for a few days, them my father take it to the future own. I know the boy was run over and i dont know anything more about they that can remenber. Them my father brought home an ill one (txiki) to cure her, but she dies. My cat (Misi) was ill and i prefer she to die if she is suffering, but she was a good cat and 11 years of convivence marks anyone. I always ask about the years that a cat can live, but of my known nobody knows the answer.
As a veterinary assistant, the oldest cat I ever saw was 23 years-old. He was very sick and was long suffering when his owner brought him in to be euthanised. I have seen healthy cats in their mid-to-late-teens, though.
Your English is just fine. We cat lovers know exactly what you mean. Our sweet Molly lived 19 years and 7 months. Tit-Tat Harold lived almost 16 years, Buzzy lived 16 years and 3 months, and of our three dogs, Bonnie lived to be 17-1/2, Button lived to 16, and Sassy lived to 15. Our pets have given us the most wonderful life we ever could have hoped for. We are now pet parents to little Buster who is just 1l months old. We are going to have a great time with him. He's precious!
