Do you thing most corvette owners like to see corvettes in a stock apperance or modified, which brings more , what does'nt hurt to change on your vette.
I own a modified, If you have a pre 71, I would leave it stock, if all the numbers match. It would be a shame to do that to a perfect car. It's up to you, its your car. I like the modifieds because they are different. I changed the drivetrain, and the gauge package in mine. It has some body modifications as well. I get alot of "I like what you did to the car "
Modifications effect the resale value, but if you want an investment, put your money in the bank. If you want to enjoy life and your Corvette, modify so it pleases you. Everybody has different tastes and opinions, so if it pleases you, who cares what anybody else thinks. It's your money and your Vette. Just enjoy it.
I guess my answer would be for you to get a copy of the September 2007 Corvette Magazine and turn to page 56 for your answer. This was a car I had modified. The beauty of it all was the car was still able to meet California's smog emissions and even with 507 RWHP - I was able to get 27 MPG on the open road!
I like them all! But I agree that I would not modify an early Vette that has matching numbers. I have begun modifiing my 88. It has too many miles and is minus it's original engine. Since it will never be a collectible, I have begun modify it. I just put in non-popup headlights, TPIS headers, chromed out engine, true dual exhaust with Borla mufflers (no cats or resonators) C6 Z06 chromed rims, LED brakelights and next will be the vertical doors that I have always wanted. More major engine mods are coming soon!
well guys i had a 64 vete that i left stock ,sold it years ago.Now i have a 84 stock matching numbers and a 05 lingerfelter which is my member picture.C3's down i would leave stock unless you need the feel of speed. Corvettes are a car that is a enjoyment to drives, like a big go cart drives great, but the older i get the harder it is to get out of one.
I'm on my 9th Corvette now, an '05 Z51 with some mods. I do love that Lingenfelter hood with the low profile scoop you've got. All my previous vettes were classics and pure stock, since I showed them and they would bring the $$$ when it came time to sell.
I can really appreciate a bone stock and mint condition '53 vette who's owner will still take it out to Corvette weekend and smoke those whitewalls. Customs are also sweet. The differences and ideas the modifiers come up with is amazing. Take a gentleman I have heard of who took his ZR-1 from the showroom floor straight to Lingenfelter for an additional $50K in mods. Gotta respect that!
It all depends on what you start with... as the other posts are saying about the numbers match stuff and earlier dates.
Im on my 5th C3... all were stockers, numbers matching, so I didnt dare mess with them much as it junks the resale value unless the mods are HIGH dollar professional and super ultimate... even at that you will never recover the cost and will loose money.
My latest C3 is a Johnny Cash Model...76 frame 80 front clip, 79 rear clip, numbers dont match...doing a frame-off Mod on this one as much as I want and not care about resale...I want it to drive and hot rod. I have some great ideas for this thing and I cant wait to get it on the road . Randy83052@aol.com
Nothing wrong with modifications, just make sure if it is a rare one that you keep all the old parts to either put back on or pass along to the new owner. I have a 1 of 2 96 Coupe that been modified but it can be returned to original quickly. Mostly just enjoy your Corvette thats what its all about
To each of their own. Some of my corvette friends are in competition on who can make their cars faster (lots of money). Some like to just change a couple things, stripes, lights, air filter system. The main thing is to keep all your original parts. So when you go to sell the car, the new owner can make it original again.
