I recently installed a 383 stroker, pushin 360 hp, 400 ft pounds of torque, in a 1989 chevy cheyenne K1500 4X4. I know i need a better Transmission, but do i need to reinforce the frame so it does not twist? Im kinda new to this, always wanted a hot lil red neck truck, and can finaly afford to do it. Any advise is welcome... Leece
in a full sized truck like yours the frame should be strong enuph for the hp your engine is puttin to the ground. As for your trany, the trany itself is strong enouph , its the parts inside that arnt. The sun gear shell is the weekest link in your tranny, They are prone to fallure in the 700r4 trannys, like the one in your truck. you can find hevy duty sun gear shells on e-bay for about $54.00. Hope this helped. As for putting it in, I just rebuilt my first tranny ( 700r4 ) because the sun gear shell took a dump on me, It was quit simple, I just bought a dvd that shows how to do it, just make sure you watch the hole vidio before you tare the tranny apart!
