Seems everyone that has worked in the auto repair business has a bunch of good funny stories. When inexperience meets mechanical devices strange stuff sometimes happens. Even you hobbyists probably have some good stuff too .( like when your buddy installed that engine but didn't put the flex plate on ??) How about it people?? has there been something you saw someone do to or with a car that made you just step back and ask"WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??!!" One of the craziest I ever saw was a seized engine in a nova... when I drained the "oil " it was the weirdest color and smell ...when I called the lady that owned , she told me that couldn't be as she had just changed it herself . when I asked what oil she had used she tells me she can't remember the brand , but still had the containers she could bring them in to prove it was changed ( extended warranty on the car).when she brought them in the next day ...yep...what were you thinking. the containers were for Phillipo Berio olive oil...it was on sale !!!! how bout it? it's been a rough day ...I need a good laugh...
I snapped the key off in the ignition of a 93 chevy silverado... I decided to "straighten" the key by hammering it back and forth until it was straight... (this was a BAD idea...) I stuck it into the ignition, and tried to turn the key... it snapped off in my hand, and there wasn't enough of the key sticking out to pull it back out with pliers or tweezers or anything. Then, I asked someone what I should do about it, he said I should drill out the ignition, and then I'd be able to start it up with a screwdriver. After I drilled about 4" into the steering column, I decided to stop and see what had happened. I had actually drilled almost halfway through the steering column, chewing up bits and peices inside that were needed for it to start... so the whole top end of the steering column had to be replaced... This was the dumbest thing I've ever done to a car...
