I don't know if there's been a subject like this before, so don't attack me if there has. But, what is your favorite classic rock guitar solo of all time? Mine is definantly Stairway to Heaven and/or Free Bird.

What do you think?
Useful Funny
Stairway is great but the radio stations have played it to death,
check out the intro to Lou Reeds rock and roll animal and also , the intro to Its A Long Way There by Little River Band the extended version those are both decent

TUFF 1!
Should probably be Top 100 and that might not be enough!
Definately one artist that should be noted is the gone but not forgotten
**** SRV / Stevie Ray Vaughan ****
I know he is better known as a Blues artist but you know what Muddy Waters said?
"The Blues got pregnant, and they named the baby, Rock N Roll!"

One of his that is completely instrumental is:
**** Little Wing ****
Strvie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble off - "The Sky is Crying"

Best guitar solo I can think of is Jeff Beck's Going Down from the album Jeff Beck Group. Masterful. There are several more that come close including a number of Jeff Beck pieces. A live version of Phoenix by Wishbone Ash on Argus+ bonus cuts also comes to mind. Both wonderful albums in their entirety. There are others as well. That is the whole point of discussion.

Another tough question. There is a lot of room for opinions. One of my favorites is Michael Schenker's solo on "Light's Out", from UFO's "Strangers in the Night". Also some excellent work on Velvet Revolver's "Slither". How can you leave out the live version of "Free Bird", various Allman Brothers songs, "Do You Feel Like We Do?", from "Frampton Comes Alive", Hendrix at Woodstock? Ever hear Prince just play guitar?

Frank Zappa - Black Napkins. Jeff Beck - pff where do I start LOL! and while he may not be considered Classic Rock, the grand-daddy of ripping vicious Surf Guitar, Dick Dale, could melt guitar picks in his prime. I agree with 777mute - Led Zep was so over-played back in my school daze that if I never hear them again I'll still know every note by heart. tommyf8701 mentioned Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush - I get goosebumps just hearing the name!

GOTTA ADD ERIC CLAPTON LIVE VERSION OF CROSSROADS! TO THE PERSON THAT ASKED HAVE YOU EVER HEARD PRINCE PLAY.YES! I HEARD HIM PLAY TO WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPSW AT A CONCERT HONERING GEORGE HARRISON AND GOTTA SAY IT BLEW ME AWAY! SEEMS HE HAS HID THAT LIGHT UNDER A BUSHEL BASKET! HAD NO IDEA HE COULD PLAY THAT WELL. FRANK ZAPPA IS ANOTHER ONE THAT SURPRISED ME WITH HIS GUITAR PROWNESS. I MOSTLY JUST THOUGHT OF HIM AS JUST BEING OFF THE WALL KOOKY,BUT THAT MAN COULD PLAY!!!
