SURE CD'S ARE CONVENIENT AND DISPOSABLE, BUT THE ALBUM COVERS ARE MORE OF A WORK OF ART AND THE SOUND QUALITY OF A CLEAN RECORD IS MUCH BETTER THAN THAT OF A CD. CD'S ARE GREAT FOR THROWING AT PASSING CARS THOUGH. ANY COMMENTS?
As a dinosaur of the 60's I admit I miss LP Vinyl and prefer it over the cold, soulless digital reproduction of Compact Discs. LP's were great fun. Turntables and Records had their own ritual - cleaning the stylus, dripping a few drops of magic elixir on a DiscWasher brush and cleaning your Albums before playing - I miss it. Never minded the pops and hisses that eventually showed up, as they were the earmarks of a much-loved album. The artwork was superior to modern CD's by size alone, which allowed one to appreciate the photography or free-hand art. Novelty records like J.Geil's Band 'Bloodshot' on Red Vinyl or Jethro Tull's 'Stand Up' with the pop-up album insert - nothing compares to that nowadays. Most important, you can't clean seeds with a CD Jewel Case.
I "unloaded" all my records back in the 80's about 2500 of them and my Dual record player but I've found that the Japanese versions of most cd's have a really nice sound to them and they go through great pains in reproducing the original artwork although in a smaller scale. Love my japanese mini lp's !
