Hi guys and gals, My name is John and I served in the USCG from September 1972 thru May 1976. What a great organization! I was an AE3 and went to boot in Cape May then off to AE school in Jax. I ended up at the USCG Air Station on Cape Cod, Otis AFB. I did alot of SAR missions and ended up in a helicopter crash and broke my back. That's why it's not actually 4 years service. I just retired from the Post Office after 28 years, what a run. I'm glad it's over. Anyway, Hi to all, that's my story! Very proud to be a Coastguardsman and to have served. jb:)
That's awesome that you served in the Coast Guard! Many can't say they survived a helicopter crash ... that's amazing. So sorry about your back :(. I'm just an airplane/ helicopter dork. Never served, but love to look at the helicopters/ aircraft you guys fly :). Coasties rock!
Hi John, I was at Salem Air Station before they moved to Otis! I was at Cape May Air Station when you were in boot camp! I survived all my helo flights and well as the HU16 and HC130 ones. I had the honor of being the first HH52A plane captain from the Avionics shop! Happily retired, twice, in Kansas. Knox
