I have an 1858 three dollar gold piece. It is in vf condition at best and was used in jewelry... there is a trace of gold soldier on the rim. Question is; is this coin gradable ? what company will grade it and about how much? Any input is greatly appreciated.
It would've got a body bag last year. I'm 99% sure NGC and PCGS will now certify it as genuine. But what do I know I'm still a rookie. The no grade book I just got from NGC says it will get a bodybag, but they just started the genuine thing. You might have to email or call them. GL
HI, IVE BEEN TOLD ONCE A COIN IS IN JEWELRY, ITS JUST GOLD VALUE. I COLLECT MENS GOLD COIN JEWELRY BUT IF BUYING COIN FROM JEWELRY, ITS JUST BULLION VALUE. ALSO WHY GRADE THE COIN? AT VF ... UNLESS YOU WISH TO VERIFY ITS NOT COUNTERFEIT, WHICH IS A GOOD POSSIBILITY WITH A $3 GOLD PIECE IN JEWELRY!
Agree with Stormy. You will get a purple label from NGC as genuine details which is worthwhile. I will be glad to submit it for you at my cost. In this day and age with PROC shi...t going on, it is worthwhile cod.
If the coin is not a counterfeit it would make it into a PCGS genuine holder under code 94 ( altered surfaces) , this would also slab in an NGC Genuine holder as well. Cost to submit a coin like this will be about $ 60 . Unfortunately even if this is real it is a heavily polished coin and you might just get a bit over scrap for it .
I know it was in jewelry and is heavilly polished, but the fact still remains it is a rare coin. I most likely will not sell this coin, but i would like to have it documented for my hiers, so that it doesn't get melted down as bullion. This coin has a mintage of only 2133 peices! I have to assume there are very few of these left today. The pictures of this coin do not do it justice, there is alot more detail than is shown.
SORRY, GAVE GENUINE ANSWER & I DONT GET IT !?? YOU ASK ABOUT A COIN, IT THEN APPEARS YOU ARE SELLING IT, BUT THEN I NOTICE IT IS A DIFFERENT USER ID THAN YOURS!!?? PLEASE EXPLAIN. THX. YOUR QUESTION IS GRADING A COIN OF YOURS - BUT IT ISNT EVEN YOURS !!??? & IF IT WAS YOURS, YOU COULDNT GET IT GRADED ANYWAYS SINCE YOU ARE SELLING IT ON EBAY NOW !!??
Olympics ????? ??? The coin in the related items column is the coin i won... ie the coin in question. I am NOT selling this coin. I bought it for it's low mintage. Many people shy away from coins used in jewelry and cleaned coins, but a coin of less than 2200 peices made has to have some intrinsic value no? So my question is; is there a grading company out there in the top three that would grade this coin?
I am going to take back my comment that the coin is worth little over scrap . Assuming it is not a counterfeit even in the heavily polished condition it is still worth at least $ 500 raw. Certified in a PCGS or NGC Genuine holder would bring more value. What concerns me is if this coin is real . It is hard to tell from the photo but something about it does not look right. It would be a smart move to send this off to PCGS to be authenticated. I suggest bringing this into a local PCGS dealer and have them take a look at it first.
I've never sent any coins in for grading yet, but doesn't ANACS slab just about anything round LOL! I think if you want to have a grade assigned to it, they might just do the trick.....could be wrong :-)
