In response to what 7693430 said, the US Postal Service isn't going to do squat if a seller from China (or some other country) sends you a fake coin, unless they have a LOT of complaints about them.
My experience is, if you see something for sale on ebay that is too good to be true, it probably is. Especially if the pictures are bad. Particularly if it is a key date or desired coin. And be suspicious of self-slabbed coins... those that have slabs from places like ANGS.

For the most part, its caveat emptor. It can be difficult to tell in pictures anyway. There are several articles around on-line about spotting fake coins. For example-
I just stay away from such coins, specially trade dollars or any coin coming from red china period. Like mkrotz said, there is a lot of info out there to learn how to identify and what to look for.

Anyways, collect what you like and learn as much as possible about that particular collectible.
