In comic book listings, what does CGC 9.4 or 9.8 or any of that mean? Thanks
Useful Funny
CGC used to stand for when a comic had been professionally graded. I'm not sure if they've changed the term over the years or not.

CGC Stands for Certified Guaranty Company. They give a independent, impartial Grade of a Comic book. They use a 10 point scale with minor flaw deducting .1 and major flaws deduction 1 full point or more. 9.8 book would have only 2 minor flaws, a 10 book would have no flaws at all. The CGC 10 Point system is based on Overstreet's 100 point system - Both are consisted a more except grade then The old good, Fine, Near mint , mint system

Just a note. I think that CGC is a company that grades more than just comic books. I could be wrong on this but it wasn't until the nineties that they enterred the comic book market. When, at the time, I spoke to my father about it he replied "Gad's, I remember when that company turned all of the coin collecting hobby upside down." I am not really sure if this is true but thought it was interesting.
