Last year I built a media pc. it ran like a dream. then early this year I went to Vista Home Premium. and upgraded ram to 4gig & added a 2X core prosessor. now i get al sorts of shut downs a graphic driver issues. i try updating drivers but. they say i have latest ones. so at a loss to see what i can do
Short of reverting back to XP as the others suggested you may also want to upgrade your video card as well. It sounds like you already have made quite an investment in the upgrade and this may not be to your choice. If the driver you have is the latest, it may still be a compatibility issue with Vista. Buying a new graphics card that is Vista Certified may resolve the issue. Prices vary on the graphics cards, but you can upgrade to a decent one for around $100.
Be aware that only the latest video cards (G92 core for nvidia) support DX10. You might need to upgrade your card to run games/video in vista. Or, this could just be your punishment for forsaking XP and choosing a sucky OS.
