Help! I think I'm a yarn addict!

I'm sure there must be others like me out there, people who just can't resist buying that next skein of yarn. I've got enough yarn now to crochet or knit complete wardrobes for a small third world nation, but have I stopped buying? NO! Just sent payment out to three different sellers for more yarn. ARGGH! When will the madness end? (In my defense, the one auction did contain mohair!) So does anyone have a solution, or am I doomed to be smothered by the huge piles of yarn that will soon arrive at my home!

Oh my dear you are definitely not alone..as for a cure I gave up and gave in to my addiction..I have a whole room dedicated to my addiction..I just spent two days organizing it all..I bought some space bags and packed all the extra colors into two large cubes..worked out great..I have stackable racks where I have one of each color and two extra large containers full..on and on..however I can now walk in there and feel good about it..I also am inspired to make many different items to use up what I can...Tell you the truth I just love it and probably won't be entering any Kick the Yarn Habit program soon..ha...Anyway you are probably doomed to live in a world full of beautiful yarn..
You can check out my store..J's Crochet for Today...see what I do with some of my stash...What kind of things do you make with your stash?

I am an addict as well. My parents bought me about 35lbs of yarn at a garage sale over the summer for $6. Then I went and bought a few lots. Whenever I go to Wal-Mart, I pick up a few more skeins here and there. I now have this huge box of yarn, that I have no idea what to do with because there is just so much and my boyfriend will not let me buy anymore lots until I make a huge dent in the box. I have sold a few lots here and there but because of Wal-Mart it looks like I haven't even touched it!! I think we like having variety. Variety is always nice because you can do whatever it is that you want to.

Hi tinkpinkduck06 ,
I think you hit the nail on the head..variety is the spice of life..but for us it's yarn of all colors and types...I know I have to have all the colors because I to want to know I can open a crochet book and make any pattern I like..
Sad to say I'm also addicted to the patterns..I won't say how many of those I have now..ha..We are a trip!!!

I used to make just blankets, and it would take me literally years to finish one, but I had a series of operations that left me home bound and now I can make a blanket in no time flat. I've recently made two sweaters, one for myself and one for a niece. I'm getting ready to start one for my Mom for Christmas, (that's what I'm going to do with the mohair) I've just been trying to decide which pattern to use. Like you, itchin, I have more patterns than I can count. I keep getting more of those too! There's a stack of them on the table by my chair that is now taller than me when I sit, I keep waiting for it to fall on my head! I don't know if you have been there, but Lion Brand has a great collection of patterns for knit and crochet that you can download for free. Anyhow, I have more or less resigned myself to my fate as a yarn addict, can only hope my eyesight and hands hold up as I have a feeling I'll be one till my dying day!

Yes I have visited the Lion Brand site and obtained many free patterns..I've been to all the other ones also..well most of them and gone through reams of paper making copies ..
One of the things I finally did was order a case of those clear plastic sleeves and went to the local thrift store where I got several large binders...So now I have most all my loose patterns and the small books in those..I can actually find something once in awhile...You might want to try that in time...I'm sorry to hear you had to go through so much..it's hell..I am glad you found something so positive to do with your time..Sweaters! I wouldn't even attempt that..I'll just stick to the small stuff and afghans...Say..keep in touch..your an interesting person..Joyce

I am guilty too. Whenever I notice a sale on yarn I have to get some. This year I promised myself that I would finish all my unfinished projects. I have about 8, I am still going to buy yarn for my next planned project/s. I just wish that 1 of my girls (10 & 12) would like to learn to crochet. I keep asking just hoping they might say yes.

You're in good company with me, too! Seems crochet and yarn have kept me sane (that...but let's not forget the TRUE sustenance of all --the Lord Jesus) during this long period of unemployment.

I have tubs of yarn and can't seem to satisfy the hunger for more. Whether it be acrylic, which is how it all began --or now the finer yarns (wool, silk, mohair, bamboo). It's all yarn and it's ALL GOOD!

I'll have to show this forum to my family who think I've got a unique bug. Now they'll know I'm not the only ONE

I love yarn so much that I have a 12 x 12 ft room just for that. it is wall to wall, top to bottom of clear totes and shelves. my hubby built this just 4 me. so he don't have to look at it all over the house. I make just as much as I buy but I like those yard sales with boxes of yarn. I always just have a base $ and see if they will take it so far 15 years and no one has said no. I guess it is hard to get rid of. but not to long when I get there. you can never have to much yarn and if you think you do than sell a little. but like I say "yarn is better than drugs because when I die you can atleast sell of my yarn stuff and make some $$"
