So, forgive the pun........you're hooked?!! I love to crochet and have been doing so for almost 50 years. My grandma taught me as well. I knit too but enjoy crocheting more.... just one hook, and crochet is very forgiving for the beginner. Knitting errors usually show up like a sore thumb, crochet errors can be worked around and no one is the wiser most of the time.

Hi, well I certainly agree with koffiebean how enjoyable this craft can be. I am self taught so it took me awhile to figure out the directions..however today there is so much help on the internet and the teaching CD'S are really good for a beginner..Your lucky to have someone who will work with you..just don't give up..once you have finished your first project you will be hooked.. I have just finished my pillow cover, now I just have to find a pillow to fit. Now I am going to work on baby blankets for my neices and nephew. I am so hooked.
My grandmother taught me also I started on granny squares just like you. had to teach myself to read directions though. I make all kinds of things from potholders to christmas stocking, also do needlepoint. hang in there and you can make anything that you want.
