hi everybody
I got some tires in my garage i don't use any more becouse my team provides me tires now. As a kind of survey, I ask : would you buy used (but still plenty of live in them) tires ?
If lots of yes, I'll sell them and buy a new fork for my old mountain bike...
Thanks,
Joan

I would buy used tires from a friend, for probably half price. Over the web, they would have to be really inexpensive to be worth my time and money.

I was in a similar situation. I gave any tires I would not use or had used that where still in good shape to individuals passionate about the sport or to clubs that could use, i.e no budget for training tires.

I worked out a deal with Panaracer to sponsor our team and provide primes to draw a larger cycling base. In the end, I had an abundance of tires left over and gave them to West Point cycling club.

Feels better than trying to schlep them out on eBay. And, they needed them.

I don't see the point of buying used tires and exposer of very subjective feedback and the insatiable. But that's just me.

Good luck.

I would buy used tires, provided the mileage is low and the price is right.
I also agree with the poster above who recommends donating gently used tires. There's a website called Freecycle.org that facilitates that sort of thing but that won't help you raise funds for a new fork.
But yes I will pick up used tires in good condition on eBay.

Hey, the way i see it is if you do not need them. then give someone else the chance to. By selling them on Ebay you will get a few bucks for them and provide great tires to someone who may not have been able to buy them full retail. Or, you can give them to someone you know might use them that needs them as the guy below already stated. The only way I see you can go wrong is let them sit around not being used.

I personally wouldn't be too quick to buy used tires.
I've bought older/outdated new tires and have experienced the difference between fresh new ones and old new ones. When you're left stranded miles away with a totally destroyed tire, you tend to realize that you didn't save anything. If you don't ride long distances, then by all means, try your luck. Stay close to home or civilization, but stay away from dangerous canyon roads with unproven tires. If you ride centuries, however, fresh tires are the way to go. Regardless of new or old, always bring 2 tubes and a spare fold-up tire with you and I bring the Topeak Road Morph G air pump to make sure I get the proper inflation without a struggle every time. Crazy thing, I've had the best luck with $8 Kevlar Forte tires over $20-$70ea tires. I bring alonga $22 foldable tire for back-up, which I haven't used since I switched to $8 tires.
Watching the pro mechanics at the Tour of California, they changed out every used tire daily. They use aged tires and don't trust them much more than 100 miles. That in itself says something.

No, I wouldn't, unless I was broke and/or rode little.

If I were able to inspect them myself, or like here on ebay some high resolution pics with great feedback sure, if the price was right. The roads here in south La. are pretty punishing on tires, and could use them for training.

Used tires... makes me uneasy. There is a similar taboo about used rope in climbing circles. Only you know the history of these casings, how much glass they've been over, how well or how badly they have been installed, etc. I've had some wacky blow-outs (never on a steep descent thank goodness) but when blow-outs did occur I knew it was all my fault and nobody else, 'cause I bought the gear, installed it, blah blah blah.

IMHO, it would worry me to sell used tires. I would not be comfortable opening myself to blame or worse liability for failure that was not my fault.

Being an "exercise" rider, I have bought a used tire, but put it on the front. If the thread separates, it is easy to change. The rear tire is worthy of a new tire or LOW wear. If you think $30 is a good new tire price, go for it. I have good results with $10-15 tires, 700X23 or 25.
